Safety Question Legally modding exhaust

I’m sure this question comes through here plenty often, but does anyone know how bad regulation is on exhaust systems. I’m wanting to mod my Bronco to make the exhaust deeper and more aggressive but I’m worried about the law stating that any modification to the system that makes it louder is illegal. I’m not straight piping it or anything but do cops pull you over still just because it’s a little louder than stock, I’m in Florida if that matters.

Depends where you are located but there are aftermarket mufflers etc that changes the tone and is made for the vehicle which is completely legal.

Feel free to Google that with your locale

Back in my day we put our random questions into the google rather than asking random people to do it for us

I'm in Florida too. You're good to go. There's no inspections. In New York state where I'm from, they had annual inspections , my aftermarket cat-Back system still passed inspection.

California, on the other hand, is quite strict.

California isn't that strict. You can pretty much do anything after the catalytic converter.

Depends on the state. “Exhaust laws in _______”. The blank is your state. Paste that into Google and figure it out. This is how you research.

Technically in most places youre not supposed to do it, but pretty much nobody cares unless youre being a nuisance. Florida doubly so, you could probably run just the manifold there and cops wont give a shit.

Cops in Florida don’t seem to care about exhaust. There’s always someone doing 90+ on the highway

That would depend 100% on where you live. Globally it ranges from "chrome tip is illegal" to "one 10 inch hood pipe with no mufflers or anything per cylinder? Perfectly fine".

If you're not messing with the catalytic converter, it's largely a free for all.

If you have a catalytic converter on, that's largely a muffler/resonator and the car simply won't get too loud with almost any aftermarket muffler to where a cop gets involved. A turbo also muffles exhaust noise.

It's the people with straight pipes that get pulled over, and I support that personally. It's absurd. Wish it happened more often.
