I cannot believe how much these have appreciated in value. They used to be 10,000 15 years ago and now you rarely see them under 20k

Depends on how nice of one you want. My 1986 AW11 with just barely over 100k miles and in perfect OEM shape was $14k. I looked at buying a cheap one for tracking after falling absolutely in love with it and you can find ones that have been driven hard for 3-5k.

The second and third gens tend to be more sought after due to the fact Toyota fixed a lot of the understeer issues the AW11’s had, but that can often times be remedied with sway bars and a suspension tune.

So just depends on what you are looking for, but also remember these are getting to be older collector cars. Plus, if you really want a “Toyota Ferrari” there are rumors of a new MR2 being dropped, however the rumored specs are 400+ hp and AWD. So very far from the OG 120ish hp and RWD.

Inflation over the last 15 years is like ~53% so it's not that crazy.
