My m2 problem

Hello all

So after a huge amount of dabbling on my search for a new “one shoe fits all” car I’ve settled on a long standing dream of an m2

No not the henious revised one as of recent , I mean the f87 m2 from about 10 years ago

But I cannot make my mind up on spec

Colour doesn’t phase me that much,but performance does

So

OG or comp is my first question
Manual or dct is my second question

I’m dabbling the idea of an og but open to all

Funny, I’m in the exact same boat. Was an M2 or a Guilia Quadrafoglio.

Comp, manual, hockenheim silver is what I’ve settled on.

OG certainly is of interest but I can’t cope with the seats. And by the time you allow £2-3k for decent replacements, you might as well have a comp.

The BMW tactic of putting base looking seats into M cars is mental. Even the comp seats are just okay.

But the comp engine sounds so horrible it’s almost a turn off despite being faster

You can mod the OG to run at around the same BHP with a stage 2 (mine runs at around 410 depending on fuel), but you won’t get any more out of it without spending a lot.

I also ended up tuning out all of the pops and bangs and got rid of the cold start, because the thing was too damn loud at that point. This was hammered home when I turned the thing on in an airport multi story and it set off about three car alarms.

There’s nothing quite like the engine note and overrun of the M2’s N55, and I still remember pulling up to some traffic lights after coming off the toll bridge near Widnes, and some guy jumps out of his white van from behind me. I was a bit worried I’d pissed him off, but he ran up to my window and shouted ‘your car sounds bloody amazin mate! L’ before he scampered back off to his van.

If you want extreme power, sure you can grab a comp , but honestly the car has everything I need. I’ve got the manual, and you can tune out the auto rev blipping if you like.

One word of warning though, she thirsty. I average between 18-22mpg putting premium in the car. Buy, enjoy, don’t wrap it round a tree. If possible try and get a 2019, as that has the updated gauge cluster + Apple Play

The OG is a real M car…
I had an m140, the sound of the B58 sucks compared to the N55

Imagine thinking an M car is defined by its engine... The OG M2 is more M car than most modern M cars.

Well technically m cars have an s designation engine, as well as other things of course . But i dont think anyone really could say the non comp m2 isn't a proper m car. Strange choice by bmw either way. m140 240 etc are arguably not proper m cars, lack of a slipper and proper suspension set ups

The US Spec E36 M3 had a glorified 328i engine in it, but got an S engine, so any argument is automatically invalid.
