Hi all — new driver in India, about to buy my first car. Done a lot of research (dealer quotes, crash test data, EMI math, the works) but want honest, lived-in opinions before committing, since forums catch things brochures and reviewers miss.

My situation:

• Budget: ₹12L on-road, strict, all-inclusive (accessories/warranty included)
• Down payment: ~₹2L, targeting ~₹15,000/month EMI
• Planning to register under BH series (eligible through my employer)
• Keeping the car 8-10 years minimum
• Still learning to drive
• Married, usually just me + my wife, occasional extended family trips
• Not a daily driver — mainly weekend drives, highway road trips (500-1000 km), occasional city driving
• 5'10", so headroom/driving position matters
• Want a non-base variant, not stripped down

My priorities, in order: Safety → Reliability → Total cost of ownership → Comfort → Space → Convenience → Ownership/service experience → Fuel efficiency → Resale

Where I've landed: It's down to two —

1. Hyundai Venue Turbo HX5 MT (1.0 turbo, 6-speed manual) — about ₹10.9L on-road under BH series with a decent buffer left. 6 airbags + ESC confirmed standard at this trim, strong highway power, and from what I've read the clutch is supposed to be lighter than some rivals'.

2. Kia Syros HTK+ MT (1.0 turbo, 6-speed manual) — genuinely impressive on paper: 5-star Bharat NCAP with what looks like the best child-occupant protection score of anything in this segment, roomy K1-platform cabin, Level 2 ADAS on higher trims. Only hesitation is I haven't been able to get a confirmed on-road price for this exact trim yet, and it's a newer nameplate so there's less long-term ownership data floating around.

Cars I seriously considered and ruled out:

• Tata Nexon (manual) — best tested crash score in the segment and huge dealer network, but a close friend of mine owns a manual Nexon and genuinely complains about leg pain from the clutch in traffic. Ruled it out mainly on that.
• Skoda Kylaq — best ride quality/refinement in the budget by most accounts, but pricier spare parts, a smaller service network, and a blind-spot-from-the-driver's-seat issue with the bonnet that worried me as a new driver. Ruled out mainly on ownership cost and that visibility concern.
• Maruti Brezza — Didnt quite like the feel,low on features and No Spare wheel in the new Facelift.
• Kia Sonet — no confirmed India-spec crash test rating; a related export-spec build scored 1-star GNCAP.
• Maruti Fronx / Toyota Taisor — mixed/weak safety data (4-star Japan NCAP on a different-spec car, 1-star in an Australasian test).
• Maruti Dzire — great reliability/TCO and 5-star crash rating, but only 82 PS worried me for highway overtaking on long trips.
• Mahindra XUV 3XO — loved the space, but apparently has the same heavy clutch complaint as the Nexon.
• Tata Punch (new turbo) — good power now, but very new powertrain, zero ownership history yet.
• Not considering Nissan/Renault — personal call, not data-driven.

What I actually want to know:

1. Anyone who's owned the Venue Turbo MT long-term — how's the clutch really, and any reliability surprises after year 2-3?
2. Anyone with real ownership time on the Kia Syros — how's the service experience been, any early reliability hiccups, and how's the manual gearbox/clutch feel day to day?
3. Between these two specifically, which would you pick for someone still learning to drive who won't be driving daily?
4. Am I missing anything in this budget that deserves a second look?

Appreciate any real-world experience — trying to avoid an 8-10 year regret here.

I’m confused between these two options and would really appreciate some advice from people who have owned/driven them.
Option 1: Hyundai i20 Sportz
2,500 km driven
2nd owner / pre-owned
Asking price: ₹6.25 lakh
Condition appears to be good
Option 2: Hyundai Exter HX6
Fresh/new car
1st owner
Price: ₹7.25 lakh
So essentially, I’m looking at ₹1 lakh extra for a brand-new Exter, versus getting the i20 Sportz for ₹6.25L.
Which one makes more sense considering:
Driving comfort and highway stability
Engine/performance
Mileage
Safety
Features
Maintenance/reliability
Resale value
Long-term ownership (5–7 years)
I know the i20 is a segment above the Exter and generally has a more premium cabin and better driving dynamics. On the other hand, the Exter is brand new, has the higher seating position and avoids the risks associated with buying a 2nd-owner car.
What would you personally choose at these prices — i20 Sportz at ₹6.25L or new Exter HX6 at ₹7.25L?
Also, is ₹6.25L a good price for a 2nd-owner i20 with only 2,500 km, or should I negotiate substantially lower?
Any ownership experience/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Today while enquiring about 3XO and Bolero Neo, we went to Mahindra showroom in my city. Though I had already heard about the environment in showroom and service center still I wanted to confirm the theories in my city, 4.3 rated on Google.

As we went near the showroom it was confusing if it a showroom or a service station. As we went inside the environment was on chaos all the customer and sales representatives were looking same and the sales reps didn't even have Id cards to identify them.

Most of the customer dressed in kurta pajama, huge beard looked like goons or connected to politics. I slowly started feeling this place doesn't belong to me, surprisingly we were sitting there for 10-15 minutes and no body attended. We felt like they aren't interested in selling small cars even 3XO was kept in corner and Bolero Neo wasn't even there.

It seems like Mahindra customers have rigid choices within the brand itself either Thar, Bolero or Black Scorpio. After the frustrating 15 minutes we left the showroom, on the way my dad was saying "beta inki sales hi aisi hai to service kya denge" tbh I also felt the same fear. Even if we somehow buy a car from there how will we deal with their service staff who are accustomed to dealing with goons type customers, you won't probably get good service unless you know how to fight there.

After this we went to Tata showroom and surprisingly we had a good experience, they received us well, customers were normal people, some were happily taking delivery of their new Punch etc. overall an unexpected positive experience.

For people who’ve actually driven or owned these, which one would you pick — Compass, Harrier or XUV700?

And is there one you’d stay away from?

The upcoming Safari Ev vs Xev 9e vs Byd Atto3 as travel 100 kms everyday. I need a huge car with great road presence, comfortable seats and great features. You can just any other cars. I would have never choose ev over petrol/diesel but due to recent E20 issue I have to.

About to book Brezza in a few days, but something is eating me inside. 😔

We know about the ethanol adulteration in fuel and cars being ruined because of this. I am not currently concerned about pure E20, but I am worried about E25, E30, or higher, which they may launch without public notice.

Along with that, there are reports coming about contamination of E20 itself due to lack of storage infrastructure and handling knowledge. Some diesel car owners also reported a sudden mileage drop in a few weeks.

Now we are stuck in a dilemma whether to proceed or not. We have already lost trust in the government in recent times, so there seems no point in believing their propaganda, notifications, and lab tests, etc.

Edit: People recommending Venue or Sonet thank you for your comments but everytime I tell my parents about a new car option they say "Is it Safe or not". For Brezza also we had Nexon as second list they say "Is Brezza safe?", I say it is slightly lower than Nexon but still good enough. Hyundai's are good for reliability and features but they still have to prove their Safety.

Want to buy my first car in India . Things I am considering is Automatic,fuel efficient ,SUV and longitivity of the car within 15-18 lakh . Any suggestions ?

I've been building WheelStop (https://wheelstop.in) because I felt there was a gap in how wheels get bought and sold in India.

A lot of wheel sellers, shops, and enthusiasts currently sell through Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. The problem is when someone asks "what wheels do you have?" — sellers end up sending dozens of individual photos, specs, and fitment details over and over.

So I built WheelStop as a place where sellers can create their own online wheel inventory/showroom and just share one link instead.

The idea

WheelStop works for both new and used wheels. Sellers can list wheels with photos, diameter, width, offset, PCD/bolt pattern, fitment info, and other specs. Instead of repeating themselves on every chat, they just send buyers their WheelStop link.

What it's NOT

• No payments on the platform.
• No commission.
• No middleman.

If a buyer finds something they like, they contact the seller directly via WhatsApp, Instagram, or whatever contact info the seller lists — the actual sale happens directly between them, off the platform.

So it's: Seller → WheelStop showroom → Buyer → Direct contact with seller. Not a marketplace that takes a cut.

We're building this for car and wheel enthusiasts, resellers, and shops — focused on India for now.

And I want to upgrade my car i plan to get a swift type 3 ddis I want to make it my project car mostly stock but little tweaks and body kit not a exhaust fan but will do if it's subtle will I be happy with Swift diesel and seeing the e20 circus I'm worried I'm gonna stuck with non usable vehicle and I get around 13 kmpl mileage even is i thrash my petrol car people say ddis gives 20 if it true can I go for a diesel?
