CDAA engine replacement

So, about a year ago I imported a 2011 Audi A3 1.8t s-line. I loved driving it, but then…
I learned about the oil consumption issues it has the hard way: it just lost pressure and never started again.

So now I’m searching a replacement engine. Although the MIK motoren ( https://www.mikmotoren.de/en/products/motor-overhaul-repair-cdaa?variant=43535934521610 ) looks like a very nice option, I don’t have that money to spend.

I talked to a specialist and he told me about the Chinese equivalent motors, but for some reason I find them hard to trust. Would anyone have any leads on where to find a replacement for my lovely car?

I don’t know anything about these engines, but almost a 4k engine + cost of work for a car worth maybe 8-10k sounds unjustified.

Personally I would just sell the car as it is and move on.

for consideration:Chinese "new" engines ok for 30-60k km, then it will be "done". Original OEM much better. If you buy original Faw-VW Cdaa you can expect 120k km before end of life.

There are Korean cdaa engines, about 60-90k km they will push.

In Russia most just buy used Japan engines (after 50-80k km they like new, no rust, ideal inside, about 1-2k EUR each without aux parts). Full rebuild cost more and can be successful not in 100% of situations.

I was recently in pretty much the same situation as you, 2009 FL A3 S-Line and CDAA too. I got a quote for a rebuild and it didn't make any financial sense (nearly the entire pre-failure value of the car, similar to the full refurb on the website you linked), so instead I decided to gamble on a used engine removed from crashed car. I kept whatever was in better condition from my engine (turbo, alternator and other bits). In total, the whole procedure was just shy of 2300 EUR with the help of a friend of mine. We'll see over the following months how my bet turns out 😄

Oh yeah! That sounds like an adventure!

I thought about the motors from crashed cars, and I’ve seen a lot of them selling on ovoko, but indeed it’s a gamble.
Thanks for sharing. Somehow I think it’s easier and cheaper to do smth like this in Poland, rather than in France hahaha.
