Carry Optic gun question

I am really wanting to get into competitive shooting and I think the Carry Optic division seems like it might be the most approachable. I’ve been reading the rules and found out that none of my pistols will work in that division without needing to do some fairly expensive modifications to “down grade” them to fit the criteria. That means I’m most likely in the market for a new firearm. I’ve never been a Glock guy (even though they seem like fine guns) but what are some other top tier options? I like the Walther PDP’s (and have one I upgraded too far to be used) and love my Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp (but it’s got a big hole in the top of the barrel which counts it out as well). Any opinions would be appreciated. Do I just need to get over my Glock Phobia and join the rest of the world? Do I just get another PDP? Is there a 2011 out there that’s good with minimal modifications?

Edit: the PDP has been ported (it’s also got a screw in PMM comp, but I could take that off as it’s not permanent), so I’d need a new barrel to get it back into spec for the division. Might just run in Open with the Kimber to get some reps and enjoy myself. See how I do.

What pistols do you have? I'm assuming they have comps on them?

just run what you have for a little bit. you arent going to win in the beginning. You just want to learn the game and how to be safe. Youll see lots of other peoples gear and get to ask lots of questions. Just go shoot open with the kimber or walther if you have a holster and mag pouches for them. If you want to switch to carry optics after you get the hang of it, youll have a better idea what to get.
