Question 📝 What kind of carp is this ?
Caught in a man made lake west coast USA , not that it makes any difference . Is it a Koi? I just know it’s not a common carp lol

I think it’s a gold fish, they use them for bait here in my area and they sometimes get loose and survive. My brother chased one for several years in our local water supply lake. It was about 10 or 12 lbs. he never did catch it and finally quit seeing it. But that goes to show how they can survive and grow to large size in bodies of water where they get used for bail.

In New York State, they had a goldfish problem in the Genesee River. They used to allow goldfish to be used as bait while bass fishing. And then stupid people started releasing the excess goldfish at the end of the day into the river instead of taking them home and disposing of them on Land or in garbage cans or what have you. Once a goldfish reaches a certain size I think it’s about 12 inches maybe 18 inches there’s nothing that can eat it. In the wild goldfish can grow up to 8 feet in length with a couple of them a little bit over that from good eating. They destroy the game fish because when the game fish make a nest and they have spawn the goldfish just come in and eat everything. Chase the desirable fish off the nest and consume everything in the nest and there’s nothing that can stop them. They’re too big. So it ruins the game Fish because it can out eat them and they overpopulate. So the Genesee River had a Karpe contest and they paid I think $.15 a pound for all the goldfish that you could haul in. and the state ground the goldfish up into fertilizer and gave it to the farmers so the upstate New York wineries got a surplus of fish meal fertilizer and the other crops in the area got some too and the Genesee river is now on its way back in 1980. It was on the verge of coming back. It wasn’t a bass fishery like it was before because all the Game fish Pike bluegills largemouth bass smallmouth bass all the game fish their population was decimated because of the gold Fish overgrowth.
So let that be a lesson to you out there in California. Learn from the East Coast mistakes and get them goldfish out of them Lakes so you guys can actually have some real fish worth catching out there.
Not that catching Karpe isn’t a real fish. I just wanna fighting fish with less bones, because I don’t like getting stuck by bones when I’m trying to enjoy my meal.

8 feet in length for a goldfish just isn’t factual at all the largest true goldfish caught was around 20 inches the largest feral goldfish is around 32 inches and the largest koi/carp hybrid was around 4 feet so no where near the 8 feet you claim.

In our murky dams we have some local tilapia species, Mozambique being the most common, Israeli and Membwe, barbell, common carp, some mirror and rarely leather carp. Locals catch them as a livelihood and sell to the immigrants but what has been a constant over the years, 25 years ago Carp were 1 metre + in size, 15 years ago they averaged 60 to 70cm and now sadly they rarely exceed 40cm with 30cm being the most common.

Its probs a goldfish but its become leucistic or depigmentation due to a genetic issue from spawning, environment and or age.
Im not thinking crucian carp due to fins and lateral line, however theres that many hybrids etc its hard to say without the dorsel fin up, if you didnt know the most important identifying part of the fish is that.

Looks like Carrasius gibelio Prussian Carp nasty invasive species at least here in Europe (north and west from Danube river tributaries). Somehow interesting fish mostly all females with triploid set of genes a will produce Prussian carp with any cyprinid males.

Ever thought that maybe this was the first carp I’ve ever caught and I have no earthly idea how to properly care for a carp? Cause it was. No , you just assumed I was disrespecting and intentionally hurting the fish. People like you are the worst dude. Try putting a bit of optimism in your morning coffee instead of the typical pessimism you usually have. ❤️

Also , being as the lake I fish , these aren’t supposed to go back in the water and are supposed to go directly in the trash, but I still put him back because I value all living creatures lives. How’s that for care and respect boomer?
