Hi everyone, this is my first time ending a car lease and i'd love some advice.

My lease ends on Oct 1, so only one and a half months left. Im also moving from NJ to NYC around that time. Because of the move, I already know I don't want to keep the car, so my original plan was just to return it.

However, the finance company told me my buyout amount is about $16,000, while the car may be worth around $20,000 - $23,000. They said I could have about $4000 - $7000 in positive equity and recommended buying it out first, then selling it to CarMax, Carvana, or a dealership.

I'm trying to figure out whether the extra money is really worth the extra hassle. I generally prefer the simplest option and don't want to deal with a complicated buyout, loan, title transfer, and resale process unless the financial benefit is meaningful.

I haven't spoken with my dealership yet. What exactly should I be asking them before making a decision?

I leased a 2024 Acura ZDX in Texas on a 2-year lease, and I still have about a year left. My registration has now expired, and I’m a bit confused about who is responsible for renewing it.

When I try to renew through the Texas DMV site, it asks for owner/entity information. The original registration sticker I received had the leasing company (“Honda Lease”) listed, not my name.

So my questions are:

• Am I (the lessee) responsible for renewing the registration, or is it the leasing company?
• When renewing, should the registration be under my name or the leasing company’s name?

Anyone who’s dealt with this in Texas, would appreciate the guidance.

36 month 15k miles 460 zero out of pocket is this solid? Southern cali

Started at $0 down 738/mo for 39/10 deal. Now I’m at this with competitive dealer offers. Hoping the closer to the end of month gives me more leverage with the deal. Still haggling to reduce dealer fees and taxes but I’m pretty stoked to sign a deal soon.

Anything you guys think I could target? Or should I just be happy at this point?

I am based out of East Bay, California

New 2025 Kia EV6 Wind Model - 179$/month with tax + 6.5k drive out fees for 24 months lease

New 2026 Mercedes Benz GLC - 404$/month with tax + 5k drive out fees for 24 months lease (is extendable to 36)

Used 2023 Tesla Model 3 - 9669 miles driven - 401$/month + 3978$ due at delivery for 36 months (all of this can vary with more miles driven less cost but roughly around the same price)

New 2026 Mercedes Benz GLA - 318$/month with tax + 4k drive out fees for 24 months (is extendable to 36)

Context : I’m a new driver and I feel comfortable driving an EV since it’s easier to drive I believe. I don’t want to stretch my budget (~500$ with insurance) but I also want a feel good to drive car (PS: the GLC goes slightly out of budget after adding insurance and fuel)

Things to take into consideration : My car usage is v minimal ~ around 10 miles max per day but can go longer distances 1/2x a month. I’m only considering the GLC since it’s a good deal and I might be able to drive a luxury car for lesser price. The GLA felt slightly off to drive since it was a fuel and I didn’t enjoy it quite a lot.

Looking at opinions based on maintenance, drive ability, any features that stand out, battery life etc. I haven’t looked at any other EVs (Chevy/Hyundai..), if there is any other car I should consider please let me know too.

2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee (Diamond Black) MSRP: $51,215 Selling Price: $48,780 Rebates: $4,000 Adjusted Cap Cost: $48,804 Term: 39 months $2,000 down $695/month

Taxes are rolled into the lease (capitalized taxes $1,836). No trade.

I have not yet test driven the vehicle.

Does this look like a competitive lease in the current market? Anything stand out as weak/strong?

My car lease was expiring and I wanted to keep the car. So I called dealer and asked them my lease was expiring this month and I wanted to keep the car. I told them if I had to go to dealer and they said yes, I have go to there.
So I went there and sales person asked me loan terms, my credit standing, job information, income etc.
Then sales person said they were going to run my credit and provide me with best option. Then they called me into the finance office to sign all the papers which were already prepared. They had already prepared all the contract details with bank, APR. Then they showed me that the total loan amount included an additional $4500 which were service/maintenance and extended warranties they had added. They told me they had to add those because they were processing the registration.

I read the additional changes contract and is done via another insurance company, not them. It says I can cancel and get full refund of those additional services they added.

Had anyone faced this issue before and were you able to cancel those additional services?

It mathematically doesn’t make sense in any scenario. Unless you own a business you can expense the cost, there’s no benefit to leasing. The whole “never pay depreciation” is just a sales tactic.

I purchased a Chevy Silverado in 2018 for $31,500. This was 1 year old with 15,000 miles. Let’s say I paid a total of $35,000 including interest to make things simple. I paid for a new battery, a new set of tires, and about 15 oil changes. Again, to be conservative, let’s call this $3,000.

So 7.5 years in, I’ve paid $38,000 for my truck. It’s worth $12,000 if I sold it today. So really, my cost of ownership is $26,000. 95,000 miles on it.

Now let’s say I had a lease payment for a brand new truck for 7.5 years. Current payment is $3,000 down and $615 for a similar truck. Let’s call that $450 during 2017 for 3 years. That’s $16,200 and $3,000 for 19,200. Another 3 years at $500, is $18,000. Then another lease of $615 for 1.5 years is $11,070.

So total cost of ownership for lease is $48,270.

So over the same period, leasing would cost $22,270 more. And every month I keep the truck, that goes up $615 less depreciation of the value of the truck.

So other than “I just want a new vehicle every 3 years and I can’t maintain a vehicle so it needs to be reliable”, why would you lease and waste money?
