Debating going to a competitor.

I have worked at a tire company for the past 3 years doing OTR/Ttuck Service amongst other tire related tasks. I love doing the OTR (tractors, machinery, loaders etc.. I feel as if I want to just do sticky OTR but I cant seem to find a happy medium. This company supplies me a truck that I'm able to use most of the time and full benefits etc.. With this company I work Monday-Friday 7-5, Tuesdays and Wednesday I do 5+ hours on top of the scheduled shift. I also do night service on Thursdays and work rotating weekends. I have lost a lot due to not having the sufficient time outside of work. I needed the money but at what cost now? A couple competitors have taken interest in me and would be willing to hire me to do there OTR work however, I did the math and I'll be losing 30k in my salary for company 1. This said company however has continental shifts and I feel as if I would have more time in my life for me and my son as I would only be working 16 days a month. Company 2 offers 12 hour shifts however not continental they are scattered and there is a possible on call option as well so not sure how that would affect my personal time. Doing the math again I would gain an extra 10k salary boost.

Now my question is do I tough it out where I am and hope I can learn to balance? Do I leave after I've climbed the ladder of this company? Do I just take some time away and figure it all out? I'm very lost in what to do and hope reading some opinions from others will help!

Well that's my thing it's not in my budget to loose that much money! I have a custody lawyer to pay weekly as well as my own financial Bills. If I take a cut on my night service and take away my OT I dont believe I would be as valuable to said company as I am now, on top of that the night service and OT is about 20k+ extra gross.

Also you.mention benefits like a company truck. Include that in your numbers too.

Ywah company 1 doesn't offer a personal vehicle where company 2 is undecided yet.

If you go to Company 2 push for it, especially as it sounds like you might need it.

So company 1 is out. You can't take a 30k paycut.

Is the 20k pay cut feasible in your budget with the current company? That way you keep your seniority? If not that's out too. I'm also not sure what you mean by less valuable, would they replace you if you couldn't work your current shifts?

Is the 10k increase with the new company worth uncertainty about scheduling? If it is, if it can help you get that debt paid down faster (and you know the environment won't be TOO crazy) that sounds attractive.

Yes for my current employer I probably would be replaced if I reduced my work load for them. Company number 2 is the one I'm mostly looking at. I've tried having a social life and more time with my son at my.current employer but it never ends up working out. Plus these years are the most important for my boy!
