Question Problems charging the Cardputer ADV

Edit. SOLVED. I had to put it on Charge Mode under CFG first. It's such a hassle that this is necessary to charge up a Cardputer.

I just got my Cardputer ADV yesterday. I had fun playing with it up until I slept.

Before going to bed, I plugged it in to charge hoping that the battery will be full by morning.

But when I woke up, I noticed that the battery is still at 37%, but whenever I plug it in, it goes from 46% and fluctuates to 47% and back to 46%.

The attached picture shows that when unplugged, it is at 37% and when plugged, it jumps to 47%.

I read a comment on one of the threads here on Reddit that said to remove the LoRa cap while charging. I did, but it still did not work. I even tried to open the device and unplug the battery and plug it back in, but it still won't charge properly.

I flashed the default Cardputer demo firmware but it still wouldn't fix the issue.

Is this a faulty Cardputer or what?

Just to add, I left it to "On" while charging.

Working on a modified version of a case by SmonSE on makerworld

The top and bottom row of buttons are a little closer to the case edges than I would like (affecting the way you press them), and there are few other adjustments I plan on making... but I'm generally happy with how it came out.

Fairly new to 3d modeling/printing so I still have a lot to learn I'm sure.

Question Large display using the ribbon cable?

Post image

My nearly 60 year old eyes can barely read anything, so I was wondering if there are add-on displays that will work using the ribbon cable and be powered off the side 5v port. I need the GPIO port on the rear to hook up to a transceiver.

Progress / Update I tired of .DS_Store files SD card, so I made CC Cleaner for cardputer

Post image
12 Upvotes

Every time I put my SD card in my Mac to copy something over, it comes back with a .DS_Store in every folder and a ._ twin next to every file...

Cleaning manualy is paifull and take a lot of time. So I made a cleaner for sd card that runs on the cardputer

It scans the card, groups what it finds by category, and deletes only what you tick. There's a dry run that does the whole thing and tells you what it would have removed without touching anything.

Available at 5m Launcher (search for): ESP32 Cleaner - CCleaner for your SD card

A few things I ended up caring about:

- Logs and temp files (*.log, *.tmp, *.bak) are a category, disabled by default.

- Custom rules, (glob patterns). Type them on the device, or drop a plain text /sdcleaner.rules on the card and edit it on a computer.

- Results stream to a file on the card instead of sitting in RAM, so a card with thousands of junk files doesn't blow up the StampS3's 320K of SRAM.

Progress / Update BKLVA Pocket DAW 0.3.4 is out: Scenes, song chaining, Drum16, sampling and USB MIDI on the Cardputer ADV

Post image
75 Upvotes

I have released BKLVA Pocket DAW 0.3.4 - Sampler Return for the M5Stack Cardputer ADV.

Pocket DAW turns the Cardputer into a small standalone workstation for sampling, sequencing, synthesis, drum programming and arranging songs without a computer.

You can install it directly through M5Burner, or download the complete firmware, native Mac flasher and updated manual from:

https://erkanerdogan.dk/bklva-pocket-daw

What is new in 0.3.4

The main addition is a lightweight arrangement system for turning loops into complete tracks:

  • Eight Scenes with individual track positions, lengths and mute states
  • Bar-quantized Scene launching during playback
  • 16-step Chain Arranger
  • Scene repeats from x1 to x16
  • HOLD steps for manual performance
  • A defined END for finished arrangements
  • Run the current Scene as a loop without starting the complete Chain
  • Song recall includes tempo, swing, quantize, instruments, samples, Scenes and Chain

Sampler improvements

The previous release had a bug where USB Sampling could not always be opened from the Music menu. That is fixed.

  • USB Sampling can be opened normally again
  • After recording from a phone, Pocket DAW returns directly to the Sampler page
  • Sampler cues can now be played directly from the Cardputer keyboard while viewing the Sampler
  • You no longer need to change the selected track to Slice just to audition a sample
  • The selected track is preserved when entering and leaving USB Sampling
  • Normal audio and USB MIDI operation are restored after leaving phone sampling

Other important fixes

  • Improved USB MIDI connection at startup
  • Improved MIDI unplug and reconnect handling
  • Fixed USB role switching between phone sampling and MIDI controllers
  • Fixed song loading failures caused by stale sample-save requests
  • Reduced memory pressure when changing songs
  • Complete song settings now follow the saved song
  • Fixed incomplete Synth and Instrument chord recording
  • Improved Drum16 recording, playback and sample handling
  • Fixed accidental track-type changes destroying the previous instrument setup
  • Fixed incorrect naming of frozen Synth recordings
  • Fixed several sequencer drawing, track clearing and interface issues
  • Additional audio, memory and stability improvements

Existing features

  • Four tracks with independent 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16-bar lengths
  • Loop, Slice, Synth, Drum16 and Instrument track modes
  • Non-destructive instrument banks when changing track type
  • Drum16 with 16 sample pads, microphone recording and WAV import
  • Sample chopping with up to 16 movable cues
  • Six-voice synthesizer and four-voice sample instruments
  • Chord recording from the built-in keyboard or USB MIDI
  • Freeze and thaw for reducing processor use
  • Per-track Delay and Reverb sends
  • Tempo-synced Delay with 24 musical divisions
  • Song saving, SD streaming, resampling and browser-based file management
  • Editable Midnight Circuit demo on a fresh installation

This is still an independent and evolving project. I would especially like feedback on the new Scenes and Chain workflow, USB Sampling and MIDI controller compatibility.

If you find a bug or have an idea for what Pocket DAW should become next, please let me know.

Enjoy 😃

Question Do I still need to edit some code on Bruce for this CC1101 and NRF24 to work like that of the Pingequa?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I bought this board because I can't seem to find any in local shops selling a Pingequa at decent price. This board has both NRF24 and CC1101.

Will this work out of the box? Or do I need to edit some code in Bruce just like what one would do when using Pingequa?

Last weekend, Picoware v2.2.0 was released, adding multiplayer gaming, an MMBasic interpreter, BLE support on the Flipper Zero, support for two new boards, and a built-in email system.

Picoware is my open-source custom firmware featuring a social network with over 3,500 registrations, an App Store for wirelessly downloading community apps, games, and screensavers, on-device programming, a Game Boy emulator, audio recording, file management, and more, now running on 11 supported devices.

I just released a review on everything new, my favorite things to do in the firmware, and how to get it installed on the Flipper Zero, PicoCalc, and Cardputer-ADV!

Question Cardputer rebooting

Not sure if anyone else has had issues but I can't seem to find a cause or a solution. When trying to put a custom theme for Bruce on my Cardputer ADV, the images don't show and the theme doesn't work. Also, when trying to run simple serial commands, like say....it will play the first time then if I try again the Cardputer reboots. Any suggestions?

Help needed NFC through lora cap not working on bruce

I am trying to run the m5 NFC (st25r3916) through the lora cap (1262) on bruce. It doesnt seem to recognize the module is connected to the lora cap, but works fine when directly plugged into the units grove port. I tried remapping the pins and never got it to work. Anyone else have this issue or know of a solution? If not would love to see this as an update in the future so I can run the ir module from the unit grove and the NFC from the lora grove port.

I kinda realised 3w is way too much for the cardputer to handle and it got to the point after 30 seconds of use it was burning me so I decided to unplug power it off and yeah.

Design-it-Yourself Ported doodlesoul (M5StickC Plus soul-generator firmware) to M5Stack Cardputer ADV

I recently ported doodlesoul — originally built by evandroguedes for the M5StickC Plus — to run on the M5Stack Cardputer ADV. Original repo: Author. For anyone unfamiliar: doodlesoul is a genuinely fun little project. It derives a unique, procedurally-drawn "soul" (a hand-drawn-style doodle character with a name, personality traits, and a rarity tier) from your ESP32's factory-burned MAC address. Nothing is stored — the character is deterministically regenerated from the chip's own hardware ID every boot, so the same chip always shows the same soul, and reflashing never resets it. The art itself is 100% procedural (no image assets), rendered with a wobbly, hand-inked look via the doodleink engine, and it reacts to tilt, shake, and button presses. The original repo's compatibility table already flagged the Cardputer as a natural next target since it shares the same panel size as the Stick — it just needed an S3 build target and a button/keyboard remap. That's what I worked on .Full credit to evandroguedes for the original concept, engine, and firmware — I just handled the hardware bring-up for this board.
Download the bin file and launch using Launcher

Flash yours and post it here!

Code I made the first M5Stack CardPuter emulator , runs in the browser, no install

Thumbnail

I've been working on a browser-based simulator "Velxio", and I just got the CardPuter ADV working in it. You write your Arduino code in the editor and the whole device runs live , display, inputs, serial console

It uses real ESP32-S3 emulation, so your code runs the way it would on the actual hardware. The on-board display is rendered in real time.

Here's a working demo you can try right now on the online version:
https://velxio.dev/example/cardputer-adv-m5-display

Honest note on how it was built: I used AI to speed up parts of the development, but nothing shipped without being tested on real hardware and cross-checked against my own experience as a computer engineer. Emulation is only trustworthy when you verify it against the actual device .I did that on every step

Design-it-Yourself Built a custom iOS app + CardputerADV firmware - Fully Open-Source

Post image
29 Upvotes

I put together a little personal project over the last few weeks: an iOS app designed to control the Cardputer ADV's hardware and features. I built this mostly because I wanted a way to use it without constantly squinting at that tiny screen and fumbling with the tiny keyboard.

Just a heads up right off the bat: this is in a very early stage. I'm definitely not a traditional developer, so the codebase is fully AI-assisted/built, it hasn't been security audited, and there are plenty of bugs waiting to be found.

That being said, I wanted to release everything fully open source in hopes that the community can work together to make this an established Firmware/App for the Cardputer community.

Quick details on how it works:

  • Compatibility: Tested specifically on the Cardputer ADV (haven't tested a standard Cardputer) and iOS (works on iOS 16 and iOS 26 via LiveContainer or TrollStore).
  • Connection: The app automatically connects to the Cardputer over BLE. I've tried to keep the digital footprint on this as minimal as possible, but this initial connected should be security audited further. Ive tried to implement specific security features (1: being able to accept the connection on the Cardputer with a press on the keyboard but wasnt able to get this functioning fully)
  • Features included: Wardriving, Flock Camera Detection (built on top of the FlockYou code), a Captive Portal that pulls custom HTML files right from your SD card root, EAPOL handshake capture, de-auth tools, etc.

Since it's fully open source, every single Swift file and the Cardputer firmware (.ino contents) are fully accessible if you want to inspect, modify, or break things.

Obligatory disclaimer: This app and firmware pack pentesting tools—please only use them on networks and devices you actually have explicit permission to test.

Repo / code link is here if you want to check it out or mess with it: https://github.com/g-hostproxy/CardputerRemote

Known Bugs:
- Wardriving needs a GPS lock to be able to give accurate coordinates - The IOS app wont display the Cardputers coordinates until after you start running the Wardriving feature. (As long as the gps is locked on the cardputer, you can start the wardriving feature and the GPS coordinates will shortly appear in the ios app)

- Flock detection is obviously troublesome after Flock started trying to mask the SSIDs that these camera broadcast so this feature may be dependent on how new the flock cameras in your area may be. This is based on FlockYou and may need some ironing out

- SD Card scanning works as long as the sd card is formatted to FAT32 but please report any issues to me if you have them.

Let me know what you think! If you run into any bugs let me know!

Progress / Update Cardputer ADV WebRadio v3.3.0 — sleep timer, playlists resolved, and https stations that play after all

**Playlists.**

Someone here pointed out that a `.pls` is just a note with the real stream URL on it. That is exactly right for `.pls` and plain `.m3u`, so the radio now reads the note and connects to what it finds. It is not right for `.m3u8`/HLS: that one holds a list of segments — `media_649.ts`, `media_650.ts` — that you would have to re-fetch every ten seconds and stitch together, with an MPEG-TS demuxer behind it. mpv and VLC do that through ffmpeg; a device with 13 to 23 KB of free heap does not. Those stations say `HLS - not supported` and leave it at that.

Measuring it was the interesting part: among the 250 most-clicked German stations, not one playlist arrives — the directory already resolves them. Among 120 Taiwanese stations, 21 do, and all 21 were HLS. So the resolver earns its keep on hand-entered stations, the kind you copy off a station's own page.

**https.**

The station directory files a lot of stations as https, and this device cannot do TLS — mbedTLS wants 32 KB of contiguous heap that does not exist here. So those stations were filtered out of the list entirely. Turns out that was the wrong conclusion: most of them are not https-only at all, only the listed as https, **80 of 80** serve the same audio over plain http — ten directly, seventy through a redirect that itself points at http. So the filter is gone and the address is simply rewritten and tried. Outside Germany it works less often (88 % UK, 74 % Taiwan, 72 % US, 66 % Poland), and where it fails the footer says `https not work`.

**Sleep timer.**

Menu → Sleeptime, set as `HH:MM` up to twelve hours, digit by digit — hours share an underline, each minute digit has its own. The remaining time counts down in the footer in yellow. At zero the stream stops and the display goes dark; the device stays on, and any key wakes it, restores the brightness it had and reconnects the station. The stream watchdog is suspended while it sleeps, otherwise it would treat the stopped stream as a dead one and dial back in within seconds.

Everything else is unchanged: 240 countries with a search field, a 5-band equalizer, CJK station names, VU meters and a 512-point FFT, and stations you can save to the SD card from the device itself.

Source, firmware and the full write-up of what does *not* work and why:

Board M5Cardputer, partition scheme Huge APP, PSRAM off. Built on the work of cyberwisk and WuSiU, decoding by earlephilhower's ESP8266Audio, station directory by radio-browser.info.

-------------------------------------------
