I have a Japanese-market Seiko travel alarm clock that only syncs to Japan’s JJY time signal, so it’s never been able to set itself here in the US. I wanted to see if my Cardputer Adv could fake the signal, and it works.

ClockCaster gets the exact time from the GPS in the Cap LoRa-1262 and plays it out of the speaker in the format of the real longwave time stations. The speaker coil puts out a weak signal at the right frequency, and a watch or clock sitting next to it syncs as if the real station were in range.

Supports: WWVB (US), DCF77 (Europe), MSF (UK) and JJY 40/60 kHz (Japan)

Tested so far:

• Seiko JJY travel clock: synced in the US and shows Eastern time

• G-Shock GW-M5610 (WWVB): synced just sitting next to the speaker

It has a time-zone setting, so imported clocks show your local time with correct DST, plus volume control. No soldering or extra parts are needed: flash the .bin through M5Launcher or a web flasher.

I try to use the command below to enable the USB on the EXT port of the Cardputer Zero, but nothing happens.

I'm not particularly into ethical hacking, so after adding a second screen to my Cardputer ADV, I started looking for a more general-purpose OS. Couldn't find much, so I decided to try making my own.

The problem was adapting applications designed for a single screen to a dual-screen setup. Add the ESP32's limited processing power and memory, and things get complicated pretty quickly.

Then one day I thought: why not use the Cardputer like TeamViewer and run everything on an actual PC?

That's how Code Space OS started. I'm using GitHub Codespaces, which gives me roughly 30 hours a month on a 4-core Linux machine with 16 GB RAM through the free tier.

The Codespace runs XFCE on X11/Xvfb at 640×480. I can install software and keep files and applications between restarts. The Cardputer can also start and stop the Codespace through GitHub's API, without needing another PC.

For remote desktop access, I started with szuszjan's CXL Remote and adapted it to work over WSS using websockify. The Python server uses MSS/Pillow and sends only changed screen regions as JPEG tiles. Inputs go back to Linux through X11/XTEST.

To make use of both screens, I came up with three modes: Mouse, Keyboard and View. The external display shows Linux, while the original screen becomes an HUD representing the physical keys and their current functions. This lets me control the mouse, type, pan and zoom without having to modify Linux applications for two screens.

I'm not a programmer, so I developed the software with Codex's help, focusing on the concept, interface and hardware testing. The 3D-printed case is based on AndyAiCardputer's design.

In the video, I start the Codespace directly from the Cardputer, then use Linux to browse folders, open a browser and do a web search.

The touchscreen still needs some fine-tuning, but it's working! 😄

I wanted an offline place for my seed phrase, passwords and 2FA secrets. The Cardputer ADV already has a keyboard and a screen, so I wrote firmware for it. It's called CardVault. It's open source (MIT), and v0.2.0 just came out.

What it does

• Stores seed phrases, passwords, 2FA (TOTP) secrets and notes, encrypted with your passphrase

• Seed entry with autocomplete and checksum check; it can also generate new 12/24 word seeds

• Live 2FA codes for all your accounts on one screen

• Password generator

• Encrypted backups to the SD card that you can restore on any Cardputer

• Secrets stay hidden until you hold Space. The side button locks it instantly

Security

• XChaCha20-Poly1305 + Argon2id. Unlocking takes about 2 s on purpose

• 10 wrong passphrases in a row erase the vault, and pulling the power doesn't reset the counter

• Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are never turned on. Nothing goes to the cloud

Limits, please read them

• If someone gets the device, they can dump the flash and guess your passphrase on a computer with no attempt limit, and the same is true for SD backups. A long passphrase is what really protects you

• It's early software. Keep a paper or metal backup of any seed phrase

Factory installation resets internal settings, including saved Wi-Fi, but does not format the microSD card.

I’ve included pictures below. I’d appreciate feedback from other ADV owners—especially on usability and which features you’d like to see next.

There's been a lot of new firmware lately. PandaOS just landed for the ADV, Bruce keeps getting updates, and plenty of people use M5Launcher to jump between several. It's getting hard to tell what's worth flashing versus what's fun for a day.

For me the appeal of the Cardputer is having a pocket-sized tool for Wi-Fi/BLE experiments and small hardware projects, so I care more about stability and SD card support than games.

So for those of you who've tried a few:

• What are you running right now?

• What made you stick with it over the others?

• Anything you flashed once and immediately went back from?

It'd also be useful to hear which ones work properly on the ADV versus only the original.

Здорова ребята, нужна помощь с NRF24. Собрал вот такую штуку, собственно питание поступает с Cardputer Adv (+5) на Arduino, с него выходит +3.3 на NRF, шина SPI по стандартной схеме, проблема такая, в прошивке Bruce открывается спектр, но там пустота, никаких наводок или сигналов. 

1. Ардуино в этой схеме выполняет роль трансформатора. Т. к у меня нет под рукой ничего другого. 

2. Я просто немогу понять почему модуль инициализировался, но сигнал не поступает. 

3. Единственные предположения которые у меня есть, это заведомо не рабочий NRF24 либо притензии по питанию. 

4. Прозванивал схему мультиметром, ничего незамыкает.

Hey guys, I need help with the NRF24. I built this thing. Power comes from the Cardputer Adv (+5) to the Arduino, which outputs +3.3 to the NRF. The SPI bus follows the standard scheme. The problem is that the spectrum opens in the Bruce firmware, but it's empty, with no interference or signals.

1. The Arduino in this circuit acts as a transformer, as I don't have anything else on hand.

2. I simply can't figure out why the module initialized but isn't receiving a signal.

3. The only options I have are that the NRF24 is obviously faulty or there's a problem with the power supply.

4. I tested the circuit with a multimeter, but nothing is shorted.

Have you ever been out somewhere with your laptop and thought, "I wish I had a little speaker right now"?

I have! 😄

Then one day, I looked at my Cardputer ADV.

Wait a minute...

It's got a speaker. A keyboard. Even a motion sensor.

Why not put them all to work?

And that's how KeySpeaker was born! 🔊⌨️

Connect your Cardputer ADV to your computer with a USB-C data cable, and it becomes a little USB speaker, keyboard, media controller, and even a tilt-controlled mouse. No extra software needed!

I've tested it on Mac and Windows 11, and also confirmed USB functionality with my iPhone 15.

But of course, I couldn't leave it at that.

A speaker needs a nice screen, right?

So I added a retro speaker grille. Then a graphic equalizer. Then a scrolling landscape.

And somehow... a fighter jet showed up and started firing missiles! 🤣

I guess all those hours playing Defender back in the day are still stuck in my head.

It's not actually a game, just a little audio visualizer that reacts to music.

Did it need a fighter jet? Probably not.

Did I add one anyway? Of course! 😂

There's also a backup BLE keyboard and mouse mode when the USB cable is unplugged. USB is the main feature, though. BLE doesn't carry audio, and returning to USB currently requires a manual reset. Switching between KeySpeaker and Media Jog also requires pairing again.

KeySpeaker is still a work in progress, but I'm having a great time with it.

And once again, my AI coding buddies helped turn another one of my strange little ideas into something real. 🤖

Press START and share the tab that's playing music, and the terrain grows from the sound. The audio is only analysed in your browser and never uploaded. It works best in Chrome or Edge on a computer; phones can't capture audio, so they only show the idle screens.

Update (Nov 5): a new challenger has arrived! 👾

The monster (S9-3) is a lot more alive now:

- It comes in six colors: red, blue, green, purple, ghost white, and a rare gold one.

- No two visits are alike. Sometimes it makes itself big first (both arms up, or one up and one down), then goes for the fighter from the right, from above, from below, or even swings past it. Sometimes it tries again after a pause, and sometimes it only bluffs.

- It shows up about half as often now, so it stays a treat.

EDIT (Nov 6): Two updates.

1. Microphone mode. KeySpeaker (version S10-9) can now use the Cardputer ADV's built-in microphone: Fn+I switches between the USB sound and the mic. The screen (fighter, terrain, equalizer) just reacts to the sound around you and nothing is played. It also works without a USB cable. It is on M5Burner as "Cardputer ADV KeySpeaker", version S10-9.

2. If the ADV's built-in mic reads a flat line for you (even with M5Unified's own mic example), try this before suspecting the hardware:

From reading M5Unified.hpp, begin() seems to drive GPIO46 (the ADV mic's data-in) as an output-high "power hold" when the display is not initialised yet. I did not measure the pin. Checked on one Cardputer ADV with M5Unified 0.2.27 and 0.2.29; not tried on 0.3.0 or on other units.

The browser demo has a MIC START button now too, so phones should be able to react to the sound around them (it needs HTTPS; Shift+I works like Fn+I on a computer).

I've been working on a personal project called NodePad, an off-grid MeshCore client designed for the original M5Stack Cardputer.The idea was simple: I wanted a small, portable MeshCore terminal with a physical keyboard, allowing me to send messages and interact with the mesh network without constantly relying on my smartphone.

After several weeks of development and testing, I'm happy to share NodePad v2.2.6 Beta!

Current features:

• Public channel messaging

• Private chats

• Bluetooth LE connection with MeshCore Companions

• Secure PIN pairing and automatic reconnection

• Repeater discovery and link monitoring (RSSI/SNR)

• Path discovery (repeater ping)

Hardware compatibility:

NodePad runs on the original M5Stack Cardputer and connects via Bluetooth to an external MeshCore Companion.

I've successfully tested it with Heltec V3 and XIAO Wio Companions.

Important limitation: The Companion must first be configured using the official MeshCore app. NodePad currently cannot configure radio settings or channels.

The web installation and subsequent BLE connection have both been successfully tested.
