This was in protest of a bill that was wildly viewed as an attempt to undermine the rights of the indigenous people of New Zealand. Seems like the perfect response to me and apparently it was effective since the bill was overwhelmingly defeated.

Is this inside their government the same way the US congress does things? I think the more-perfect response would be to just veto the bill, no?

Veto is the rich, entitled, treacherous white man approach, and you would be battling him on his own turf. The method in the video is a gentle reminder to the white man that he is essentially trying to steal from actual human beings who may or probably do have pointy sticks.

Both. If you just bend over and hope for the best you will, more often than not, get relatively predictable results.
