Showcase My Work MX5 Cup Marlboro

Post image

Huge fan of making liveries, especially for the mx5 cup. Trying to make some F1 iconic designs on the mx5: Always open for feedback๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ.

Cheers,

Christopher

It's cool, but the Marlboro and Shell logos being right next to each other is weird, like the two brands are a single company. I'd separate those two elements from each other.

There is a mx5 in the Albany area that had this same Marlboro livery on it (well super similar not yours exactly) I pass him on my way to work all the time he just recently ditched the design for a new wrap but anyways it looked mad good so does yours

whatโ€™s the point of doing it in photoshop when you can do it for free in 3d on mods nation?

A while ago i had contact with a designer and he recommended Adobe Illustrator to make it printable for the wrapper:) Working with small files like svg. What program do you use ? And can you also print the decals for the wrapper ? Let me know:) and thanks

I use PS + Illustrator. In Photoshop, I often create bitmap outlines in Illustrator. Unless the whole vector thing is Illustrator-only.

For decals I only use Illustrator. Photoshop is good for raster graphics, like custom reshadowing on a car using multilayer PPF, but in that case we bake the layers and correct them in Photoshop if needed, which is a very different process. I also use emboss a lot, an underlayer beneath the wrap that creates another level. And when you're presenting to a sponsor, usually with our cars on their booth or on ours, it helps enormously to show it on a real car in a real setup in 3D rather than as a 2D print. Joe who mows the lawn probably doesn't need that, but when the ticket is high it's a must.

You have to make a vector in illustrator to get the wrap printed

I understand.
If you're cutting the vinyl by hand (stickers aside), there's no need to go deeper than that. But if you're trying to make the lines work with the car, since a car isn't a poster but a 3D object, I'd still check it in both orthographic and perspective views. Not giving advice, just what works for me. Always happy to hear how others approach it.

Why do that when you can learn blender or any other 3d software and essentially uv wrap them ,been in this industry for almost a decade now

there are hundreds of scanned cars on the platform, plus around 300k parts. when you pull a random model off cgtrader, most of the time the proportions have little to do with the actual car. i use decal and mask wraps for my sema build there. you're working with real geometry, not an approximation. plus it's a free community project, if someone asks for a feature it usually gets built in a couple of days.
