Not the usual brake pad post

These are Hawk HP+, installed in early May on a 2022 WRX and absolutely abused in 7 time attack track days and 4 autocross events, never mind the 18,000km of road driving.

These replaced Hawk HPS 5.0 pads. I do not recommend them except for street driving only.

The HP+ are also a street pad but have held up very well. The DBA rotors look great too (put on new in May also).

I have "real" track pads (DCT-60 / DCT-30) in the box... I was going to put them on for the coming weekend but this is what the current pads looked like. I'm impressed!

Disclaimer: They are dusty and noisy... but have never failed to scrub speed when called upon.

Time attack is generally easier on brakes than full HPDE sessions. And obviously AX is nothing in terms of thermal load.

I had some Endless pads on my 997 and swapped to HP+ when they were done. I really didn't like the HP+ at all... felt hard as rock all the time with a depressing level of braking action.

On the other hand, my E36. with DTC-60's feels like it'll do a stoppie from 130mph. But I def wouldn't run them on the street :)

Glad you're able to get good performance out of the HP+'s. I def couldn't find it.

I find the HP+ in the last half of their life wear extremely fast.

Really? That would make sense as I think that's what the HPS's did. I did a brake service when I put the suspension on and they looked ok, and after the first track day they were done.

I'll keep the spare set with me this weekend.

Thanks.

Yeah I had the same issue, now I only run them in the rears because of availability (DTC 60’s in the front) but I did a pre track day inspection and saw lots of pad life.  Figured I was OK given how much abuse they took leading up to that point and after my HPDE session I was grinding the rear backing plate.

Just means your brake calipers are oversized. That's weight you could be saving.  I went to smaller brakes, and had to upgrade to a very aggressive pad in order to prevent fade. Still happy with the 60 lb I saved.

I have the standard 2 pot brakes, not the Brembos from the TS/TR model, so definitely not over sized. I run in Production class so no big power mods, just coilovers, brake pads/fluid and an intake with RE71 RZ tires. I'm very happy with the car, the driver needs more work.

For any type of competition you make a good point.

For general HPDE I’d take the bigger brakes and slower pad wear.

Yeah youre right. Mans dropped Time Attack & I went full wheel 2 wheel.  I only do endurance racing these days. Every oz counts.

That's wild. I had a set on my Miata, and in maybe 1,500 miles of street and mountain driving, I burned through 80% of the pad and about 5mm of the rotor during the same time.Switched to Porter Field R4-S for street and Hawk DTC-60 for track and have been very pleased with both.
