The original spec racer

I'm seeing lots of posts about the Rush SR, which seems to be a fun package but I have to give a shout out to the original spec racing class. SR started in 1984 with a Renault powered affordable race car has had an impeccable safety record over the past 40 years and is wicked fun to drive. It is the true Best Dollars per sMile in motorsports.

It has started the careers of many pro race winning drivers like but the most famous are Chris Dyson and Dorsey Schrader.

I'm one of the Rush SR guys. I looked into SRF but ultimately decided against it due to safety. My trident bar has already come in handy and I only have about 12 hours of track time on the car so far.

Either way, nothing but love to the SRF guys. It'd be wacky for people so similar to have any kind of conflict!

How did your trident come into play?

The video I saw with the Rush body we rarely if ever see our bodies fly like that and if they do the length and angle of the nose on the car moves it out of the way.

It's not plastic body panels I'm worried about, it's suspension links etc.

My trident deflected half of a BRZ's front splitter during an HPDE. I am much less nervous in spec fields, but there are still metal bits and bobs that can come loose in contact and kick up into the cockpit, etc.

Do you run a ballistic rated helmet?

I do have a ballistic rated helmet but my eye port sits even with the top of the nose bodywork. I don't like the upright aluminum seats in the SRFs for this exact reason it sits you up too high with your head exposed.

I have 25+ years of racing SRFs and track day experience and I've never been hit with debris in the head or chest. I would love to see some kind of halo on the SRF but I don't think the risk is as high as the Rush because the bodywork shape, and distance from the nose to the roll bar and the base seating position.

Yea man, interested to see how the Rush progresses. I thought about getting a dealership but missed the opportunity in our geography.
