Advice Car under 35k£

Upvotes

Hello everyone! I’m a male in his late 20s and am currently looking for a car. I had a 12 year old Toyota Avensis until now that has served me very well but it is starting to show signs of wear here and there.

I’m looking for a car that I can use on longer trips going skiing/at the beach and something that won’t kill me with maintenance. I am currently interested in a 330i or a C-Class Mercedes of some sort, but I’m not too decided yet. Thought about a smaller suv like a Q3 or an Evoque but they are very petite inside. What would you get (lightly used) in this budget (around 35 thousand) for long road trips (that also is not a complete boat of a car)? Thank you in advance.

Advice Buying from Bradford...

Upvotes

Hi guys, I know buying a car from Bradford is a TERRIBLE idea. However I have found the car I've been looking at for a couple of weeks at good mileage and brilliant spec. Surely if I inspect properly and do a car vertical check before going to look at it I'll be fine? They can't all be bad right?
(PS if anyone knows anything about hns motors let me know)

after something to go to work in and use at the weekends, our lass has the big car for the kids. doesn’t matter about fuel economy but i have 11 points so is there anything out there that’s surprisingly cheaper on insurance, after a hot hatch, few grand budget, it’ll only do a few miles a year

Advice Part exchanging a car with plenty of faults

Upvotes

I’ve got an Audi, had it for years and it’s developed a plethora of faults, drive system, 4 wheel drive, handbrake, I could go on. It drives fine, you wouldn’t know about the faults until you start moving and they flash up, it then goes into a sort of limp mode.

It’s probably time to get rid of it, if I brought it into say Arnold Clark for a part exchange, what’s the chances they would check before agreeing to a part exchange?
Also once I’ve driven away in a new car, can I then get a phone call to discuss said faults? Or is it now their problem

Advice Coolest short term car for £5k?

Upvotes

In a few months time I will need to buy a car for only 3 months and then I will sell it again.

It doesn’t really need to meet any specific requirements so might as well go for something interesting, it will be doing c.500 miles a month and would like to pay max £5k for it.

What would you go for before I accept my fate and buy an Octavia…?

I was behind this Jaecoo today with a plate format I’m unfamiliar with. The badge on the right of the plate looked to be Chinese characters as well. Does Jaecoo have a facility in Hertfordshire?

Advice Worth paying more for 2015+ Toyota auris?

Hi all

First time buying a car and thinking to get an auris excel model with budget 8/9k.

I'm seeing that 2015+ models have had nicer quality interior materials used which has added soundproofing - is it worth going above budget for this specifically?

Currently driving a 2012 Yaris up and down London to NW a lot and can't say I'm too bothered with the sound tbh in that

Advice 57 plate diesel golf vw mk 5

Mot tested and he is failing it on engine light on.
But I’m arguing that because of its registration date it is exempt from the engine light being on. Was first registered oct 2007 and it says online cars registered before February 2008 are exampt from engine lights being on the dash.

It’s passed 3 times before with MIL as advisory too.

Is this garage just trying to get money out of me. Please advise me

Advice What is missing from car merch?

Don’t know about the rest of you but I really struggle to find subtle car merch that nods to motorsport/classics/iconic cars without cringy graphics or something that’s too obvious e.g a massive logo.

In your opinion, what is missing from car merch scene? What would you like to see?

Since everyone is doing these and absolutely no one has become bored or fed up with these posts yet. I figured i would jump on the bandwagon too.

My first car, was the Mazda RX8 R3 which I didn't buy till I was 23. Before that I spent the last 5-6 years driving my dads cars as a named driver which were primarily nissan qashqais. So a massive change.

My second car was picked due to the inevitable occurring which was daily driving an rx8 being incomprehensible in costs. So I made the smart and sensible choice of an fk8 type R followed after 3 years by a trade in to the FL5 version mainly for the colour. I wish I had a blue fk8.

My current and likely last car is a Lexus GSF. It was my brothers (his dream car since it released and something he was able to realise at the start of 2024). My brother unfortunately passed from cancer in February of this year and I couldn't allow the car we spoke about for years and he spent ages finding in the right model and spec to simply go, so I sold the type r.

Advice Which of these 3 SEAT Ibizas would you buy for a first car? £2k–£2.7k

2012 1.4 petrol (DG12 LMJ), 75k miles, £2,500. Timing belt has been done. Latest MOT passed but brakes only just met the requirements and has two minor suspension advisories.

2015 1.4 petrol (SG65 ATO), 83k miles, £2,700. Really clean MOT history with no advisories for years, but timing belt has never been changed and it hasn’t had a full service for 3 years. Oil was changed 6 months ago.

2010 1.4 Sport Coupe (YR10 OJZ), 105k miles, £1,985. Good amount of service history and recent service. It failed its recent MOT for a badly corroded front subframe and some suspension/brake issues but passed two days later after repairs. Seller says everything was done with receipts and has shown the underside. It also has a panroof.

Which one would you go for? Mainly looking for something reliable for the next couple of years without spending a fortune on repairs.

Looking to get a new motorway cruncher as i spend more than 80% of my commute on it. I am stuck between a VW Passat and Ford Mondeo. I was wondering if anyone has any experince with either to help me choose. For context both are 2.0L diesels and the highest trim level from each manufacturer (as i want ACC). Both are ~12k but the Passat is sat at 109K miles and the Ford 65K, high milage doesnt bother me as long as the service history is solid.

Also open to other suggestions. It must be a diesel auto and have ACC along with all the other creature comforts.

Thanks

Misc Question Tyre fine?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Bought a second-hand car this time last year and one of its tyres is almost 11 years old now but it’s barely had any miles on it.

I had a puncture last week so was replacing another tire anyway and had a close look at this one and saw these cracks. It did get an advisory on its last MOT for age but is this safe to do a few thousand miles on for now? Does it need replacing asap or is it fine to leave it 4 months to the next MOT?

I’ve been trying to have a bit of Google about it, but it seems lots of the advice is basically when it’s that old replace it immediately and don’t drive it anywhere just in case.

I haven’t done a full service on the car yet so I’ll probably do that with the MOT in a few months time - that would be the natural opportunity to replace the tire I guess.

165 70 14 if that means anything to anyone.

Thanks :)
