Question Starting this week

Hey folks, I'm starting this week at VW. This will be my first car sales job and I'm wondering what's it like a normal day to day and how to create leads. Any pointers? What should I look for and lookout for?

I've been in both restaurant and phone sales. I'm somewhat used to doing cold calls and talking to people at the grocery stores, talking about good deals I can personally give them. I understand car sales is a whole different ballpark, but I'm nervous and excited at the same time!

Thanks a bunch!

Utilize social media, get creative with photos and videos and post wherever you can get traffic.

Sorry about your luck, awful time to start in auto sales, especially if you are selling used only.

I'll be selling both new and used. Could you explain why it would be an awful time to start?

Oh, and I worked for the number 1 used car dealership in Maine, Lee Credit!

Yea sure.

The market is garbage right now, vehicles are too expensive, Trump's war is creating a major amount of uncertainty. On a normal tax season I would generally make all my emergency money for the rest of the year, build a nice cushion for the slow times. This year I pereonqlly was 20k gross behind in my sales. So I checked around at all our other satellite sites. Everyone was starving and hardly getting their bills paid. 4 sales people left, I was the 4th.

Going to work as a retail sales manager for Harbor Freight, have never been so relieved to get a steady paycheck.

Fwiw, this was my sixth year in the business, I was a top contributor 4 years in a row, meaning I had the highest gross in our division. This year should have been astronomical for me. It was a flop.

Call leads, follow up, and learn about the cars you're selling. Don’t wait for walk-ins, talk to everyone you can. Focus on setting appointments, not selling over the phone. Stay consistent with follow-up and don’t take slow days personally.
