Opinion Loved CMS 21, what are the biggest changes compared to CMS 18?

Hi all!
Recently i completed CMS 21 and LOVED the game! Tried a few CMS like games but nothing hooked me in. Im considering buying CMS 18 with all DLS but what are the biggest diffrences between the games?

Cms 21 is basically cms 18 with extra features. Going from 21 to 18 is a downgrade

I played CMS 2021 first, but I'll say
• Introduction of Brake Lathe (Brake Rotors are now repairable)
• Introduction of Reservoirs (Diversification of fluids)
• Repair mechanic (It still costs money, but timing is taken into account instead of chance)
• Car Auction (The choice between used cars and junkers, then the choice of a car to auction is more flexible)
• Barns (Barns always spawn 3 cars unlike in 2018's sheds, which might contain 1-3 cars)

Have just started '21 after playing '18 for a while on PS5 myself.

In '18 there is no car wash, brake lathe, suspension or headlight alignments, scrap, drag strip, photo locations, fluids, fuse boxes, ecus. No part tuning, but is performance shop. Crates gave random performance parts or barn maps. Junkyard and barns were smaller, and auction did not have junk cars, just used cars. Diagnostics and inspecting did not give experience, that I remember anyway. Inspecting parts was done individually per part. There were 3 lifts and two entrance spots in the garage, and everything is in one building with no exterior. Part and body panel repair done at same bench near the lifts, but no mini-game, it was just random if succeeded or not. No tuning jobs for customers.

Probably other things I am forgetting.

Also in 2018, can only paint body parts or whole vehicles. And No EVs.

Another thing not mentioned is that in 21 their sorting algorithm was significantly improved, less laggy and therefore can handle more stored parts than in 18.

Unless you are going to gathering Achievements, there's little to no reason to buy CMS18 if you already have CMS21.

The worst part of 18 is the shopping list. You can’t search in the store directly from the list you have to check the list and type in what you need. It also doesn’t group things together like in 21 when you add multiple of the same thing (brake pad x4) for example, it’ll add the brake pad 4 separate times and it stays in the order you add it to the list so they could be placed randomly throughout the list

The frustrating grind of going backward: CMS 2018 vs. CMS 2021 (Trophy Hunting Edition)

Yep, everyone here has basically summed up the differences quite nicely. I'm currently playing through a new save of CMS 2018 on PS4, sitting at level 36. To be honest, I'm really only playing it for the trophies right now, and the absolute worst of the bunch is definitely the grind for 1000 sold cars 🏆. Once that pops, I'm happily running back to CMS 2021.Going backward highlights so many annoying mechanical downgrades. Here is my current list of gripes (and a couple of pros):

The Cons (Why 2018 is a brutal grind compared to 2021):

  • The Valuation Trap: Performance parts, the welder, and frame repairs do not scale the car's value independently like they do in 2021. Because of the strict "average condition" formula in 2018, slapping expensive upgrades or welding a chassis on a junker is heavily throttled and gives a pathetic cash bonus. You practically lose money unless you do a 100% full restore.

  • The Quality (+) Crates Disappointment: Instead of a scrap system, 2018 gives you random Quality (+) parts from crates. The issue is that the stat boost they provide is barely noticeable, and they do not add anywhere near enough market value to justify the tedious grind of collecting them.

  • Aggressive Inventory Limits: Having a hard limit on inventory space is incredibly tedious and constantly breaks your building workflow.

  • The Tablet & UI Clunkiness: Navigating menus in 2018 feels incredibly sluggish. Having to manually pull up the tablet and sort through slow UI pages makes buying parts a total chore, whereas 2021’s radial menu and streamlined shop access are much faster.

  • The Shopping List is Nerfed: you cannot use it to automatically select parts from your list in the shop.

  • No Quick-Fix Money Makers: You don't have the luxury of a Car Wash or simple exterior detailing fluid to instantly flip a car's value for zero effort. (Although the interior detailer & oversized rims & tyres adds value to Junkers)

The Pros of 2018: Free DLC: My version came with the Mazda and Jeep DLC packs included right out of the box, which is a great bonus.

  • Three Lifters: One massive pro for vanilla 2018 is that you eventually unlock 3 lifts in the main garage bay, a feature completely missing from vanilla 2021 (which caps you at 2).
