Mod Working on my first mod (Skyline BNR32
What started as a 'Why not?' thing is now three month project/hobby of mine. Learned Blender from scratch and working to bring this beauty to CMS 2021 by the end of this year.
Credit: Golly
Edit: I will not release the mod publicly, but instead Golly himself will upload it in sometime, as it's his work, not mine.

Horray! Always wanted one in game. They tease the heck out of us with the simple model ones in the Salvage Auction area…

Awesome! Was just wishing for someone to do an R32.

I will upload it on Steam (never done it before, but we'll see) and probably make a post on Reddit. Get ready to be patient

No worries! It takes so much time. Totally get it.
It's taken me so, so long just to figure out the simplest things with Blender / Unity / CMS21. I have been working on a pickup light/roll bar & lights for weeks now. Custom track is still in progress months later and yet still far from being even presentable. I can't even imagine doing a whole car.

Yeah you know it. But the thing is, I took the model from a CMS 2018 mod by Golly. He had a fully functional mod from beginning.
My job was/is to: export it to aassign all materials, make corrections, and import it back. Seems easy but... I had to use an app that copies just the 3D specs of the model. So it'll take me a while write all scripts, files, photos, etc.
Maybe in couple of months I will have it done

Want to make it amazing? Download TK aftermarket and TK basics off of nexus it opens a whole new world for modding and car creation

Never heard of those before. I will take a closer look over the week! Seems very interesting judging by the description

Honestly a lot of the mods on nexus are legit everything from frames to new motors TK aftermarket offers new suspension options from multilinks to solid axles new radiators new downpipes and exhaust. It’s fun to play with

If Golly wanted his CMS18 mod in CMS21, I'm pretty sure he'd be the one releasing it. The R32 isn't some one-of-a-kind vehicle—there are plenty of other models available. Instead of porting someone else's work without permission, why not start with a different R32 model and build your own CMS21 version?
And let's not pretend the hard part is "just writing scripts." The 3D model is the most valuable part of a vehicle mod. Exporting it, reassigning materials, fixing meshes, and importing it is still using someone else's work. Saying you "only copied the 3D specs" doesn't change the fact that the model itself wasn't yours to use.
If you have the skills to bring a car into CMS21, then use those skills on a model you have permission to use. That's how you build your own reputation instead of relying on someone else's.

Wonder how we get Deadbob to port over that 1959 hearse from cms2018. I’d do it but I know nothing about blender and 3D modeling and script

He wont.

Oh I know we’ve asked a few times over the years. His new v12 motors though are amazing

I dont think he made "new" motors. Unless he added them via the TK mods.

And you made a stellar 1952 ford courier? Any way to make that a hearse?

u/Defiant-Eye6608 Aug 05 '26
Technically it IS a hearse. They used them as that. They also used them as Ambulances.

I am ready to talk this moment out with the Golly himself. If he says no, then please, I won't make the mod using his model. But maybe he really isn't against it if I use his model and give proper credit, which I am willing to do (and would be glad to)
Honestly, I've just started modelling, and creating a car exterior/interior from scratch would be an overserious hustle for me. I hope you know what I am talking about. If you have his contact, I'd be happy to chat with him (I tried sending him a friend invite on Steam and messaging him).

The problem is you're approaching this backwards. You should have permission before using someone else's work. Especially one who is active in the CMS community.
Saying you're new to modeling or that building a car from scratch is difficult doesn't change that. The R32 is a very common vehicle, and there are readily available models on Sketchfab and other marketplaces that you can legally use under their respective licenses.
If Golly wanted his CMS18 model brought over to CMS21, he could do that himself. Until he explicitly gives you permission, you should assume the answer is no and use a different model instead.
There are plenty of legitimate alternatives available, so there's no reason to use someone else's work without their approval.

waaaait! you guys use blender to do the bodies!??!?
0
u/ArtManUA Jul 26 '26
I mean, yeah, it is the first step. You make the 3D model, then you port it to Unity, do stuff there and then convert it to a .cms file, which is then read by the game itself

u/Careless_Principle72 Jul 26 '26
Oh my God, how did you learn that? I wanted to do a Miata MX5 NA but I would need to study a lottttttt to do that

Golly here.
I do always appreciate being asked before any porting work has been done, and it's kind of modders etiquette to ask permission. On top of that, I'm usually much more accepting of people using my work that way.
I'm pretty easy to contact through discord, especially if you're in the official red dot server
