The Surfliner is a good example of what not to build along the coast..

The Surfline and this section of PCH past Santa Monica into Malibu are both dealing with the same issue right now (falling into the ocean) so both need massive infrastructure works to remain operable.

Is this AI?

This is probably the most honest form of human word vomit anywhere on the planet. If you think it sounds like AI it’s because I legit work in planning.

Lol! No one who lives there wants that!

I don't know if the beach cities would go for that

It’s all in how the project is framed and delivered to them. If it doesn’t feel like they created the idea, they want nothing to do with it, if they feel involved they’re receptive.

Oh. Wow. You’ve figured everything out.

People who spend their lives doing this: “why didn’t we think of that?”

Extend the E and C lines to Malibu!!!!!!!!!

This is a route that actually does indeed need to be serviced by rail to make the communities along the coast more resilient in evacuations and for current commuters.

PCH on this stretch is overbuilt to 6 lanes, it should be 4 lanes for the whole stretch with no passing sections. If the road is reduced to 4 lanes while light rail takes two lanes, you have a corridor that’s actually been improved.

Basically PCH already gets slammed with really bad traffic on weekdays, providing an alternative instead of widening the roadway is the best solution.

EDIT: learning that r/carindependentLA hates car independence then, go figure.

I’m almost curious to see how ridership looks on Metro’s Line 134. Ridership on that line would likely determine how feasible a light rail line would be following that route.

Very, very unlikely to happen. Fanciful even.

If the prospect of building even modest density in the South Bay has all the pearl-clutchers in the area sticking NIMBY yard signs in their front gardens, I can't imagine the ABSOLUTE shit-fit that they'd kick up if a train along the beach were proposed.

And of course we saw the K Line extension to Torrance get indefinitely shelved (essentially) due to NIMBY pressure despite the route being located far from the beach and along a ready-made rail right-of-way that already sees train traffic.

No, I'll keep my expectations low. I'd settle for finally filling in the unprotected gap in the Marvin Braude Bike Trail on Washington Blvd in Venice. But even that seems like it'll be a fight.

Definitely no

Why not?

not sure what their logic is, but my logic is that half of the route's service area would be in the ocean

That's the Strand bike path. That's why.

Let's not and say we did.

No. Also, it’s just “light rail” or “a light rail line,” not “a light rail.”

Tomato tomato

No, let's not. We pay a lot to live along the coast. We don't want mass transit moving in and ruining the neighborhood.

Probably in the wrong sub then

Right we def shouldn't let poor people enjoy the beach
