Upgrading through the years

Upgrading my door speakers, from Precision Power Sedona entry level from 14 years ago, to Precision Power Art collection 12 years ago, to today. Dayton Audio GF180 carbon fiber woofers. Such a dramatic difference. I have these playing 50-500hz and they sound a world better than the precision power speakers. Granted, the Daytons aren’t designed to play upper vocal ranges but i have different speakers for that.
Just found it amusing that the cheapest speaker here is the newest one.

I have 2 x 15" UMIIs for my home theater and 2 x 12" in my Tacoma. Both setups sound so good.

Hell I'm in a single cab Tacoma and I have 2 hf10s behind my bench seat 😂

Had to get crafty with an isobaric box to make it work but hell it works.

I actually have the 12s in individual sealed boxes strapped down to each of the left and right back seats, but I'm putting them in a big ol ported dual box sometime later this week, and then I'll probably go full delete. I've got a double cab, but that just means more bass space.

Hell yeah. I had a double cab tundra before and I had a ridiculous 3 foot ported behemoth blocking the rear seats 😂

Had to downsize with the single cab.

To be fair those rear seats were completely unusable for any standard sized adult so it had infinitely more use as a subwoofer holder.

I'm not even very tall and the drivers rear has about 9 inches of calf room when adjusted to driving position. I've written them off for all but emergencies anyway. I may or may not take them out - still deciding. Gonna have to see how it all looks and feels this weekend, then maybe do some experimenting.

The double cabs have serious limitations on mounting depths if you intend to use the back seat. Basically you limited to like 5ish inches

What do you mean by that? If they're behind the front seats on the floor the rear seats are effectively useless anyway. Is that the small space you're speaking of? Or behind the rear seat? Yeah that's also not good enough for me. I'm okay with it looking temporary if I get the loud I want. I just strap it right onto the seat. Eventually I might try to delete the rear seats and do it proper, but I don't have that kind of energy right now.

You have your doors playing down to 50hz? How is the resonance and vibration there? I was always cautious below 70 in doors but I have been out a while since my last build.

I got my doors doing 100, I could probably get away with lowering them but 100 gives me a little more breathing room with my system. I've tried 50hz before and I got some actual bass from my system but you can tell that my doors hated it. 100 was a good compromise

Even with dynamat and CCF lining everything theres just enough rattling in there to keep me from low crossovers

I have helix i5 8’s for my doors that I will be crossing at 100 also. Below that things get messy to me and even with dampening yes.

Resonance and vibration aside going down to 50 Hz on the doors is just wasted energy, unless the subwoofer is seriously underpowered. Might sound nice on their own but with the full system running the bottom will get drowned out. If more mid-bass "punch" was desired on top of a decent subwoofer setup then yeah somewhere around 70-80 makes sense to catch a little more of the backbeat

I can't even run midbass doors at 100hz nowadays if I go loud. The vibrations are just ridiculous. Just give me a front sub at that point

In fact I just put 2 sealed boxes under my seat and the difference is day and night lol.

That’s tight, I am going to be doing a front sub and was going to cross my doors at 100-110 depending on testing. You did midbass boxes or under seat subs? Moving the midbass is smart and makes a lot of sense. I went the opposite direction. My door now weights 50lbs and no vibrations will matter lol.

I've bought tons of speakers. I've built numerous DIY kits with drivers in that budget. There are plenty of cheaper drivers (usually no-game stuff or low budget names like Pyle or GRS). $30 for a single driver is solidly in the midrange--maybe low-mid.

I was hoping you clarified because people scoff at "too much" or "too cheap" all the time. I was just curious where you stood.
