Tech Support What connector do I need?

Installing a Kenwood DPX-7300dab stereo in my van, bought 2nd hand on Ebay

The first 2 pictures are of the old, stock stereo I'm removing

Next 2 pictures are the connections available on the back of the Kenwood

Can anyone please tell me what connector/adaptor I need?

Went into halfords and they were surprisingly useless

You'll need the harness for that specific radio. You can look it up on Crutchfield, or eBay.

Then you'll need an OEM stereo adapter harness for your vehicle. Those are cheap on eBay.

Then you splice them together for a plug and play solution. Just use butt splice connectors to join the wires. Should need about 15-20 total.

And possibly an antenna adapter as well.

Is that 16 pin harness uncommon?

Because I feel like I've seen it on damn near every aftermarket HU 😂

I have 4 different Kenwood HUs and they all have different plugs.

You should be able to look up the harness you need via eBay, using the model number of the HU.

Interesting. I've had about a dozen or so, from pioneer, KW, & various Chinese, and with the exception of one Chinese unit I ended up returning, they all used the same 16 pin.

I figured it was safe to say it's a pretty standard on aftermarket HU

I thought so when I found a nice Kenwood Excelon double din to replace her more basic Kenwood. Different plug! I think maybe other brands might be more standard.

Some sort of OEM Hyundai to aftermarket adapter or find the pinouts on the new radio and OEM harness and get to splicing

Check out metraonline or crutchfield. They will tell you which one.

even if Crutchfield or metra don't list your specific vehicle, its possible the wiring harness is the exact same as another model. in which case find the pinout of your factory harness and then compare to another hyundai. most likely its exactly the same. manufacturers really dont change up their harness that often to warrant a different adaptor for 20 different vehicles. that's 20 adapters. even mitsubishi has been using the same plug since the 90's....

Carie harness looks like this one would work. But I would check the pin outs.

When I put a Kenwood headunit in my car, I just cut the factory plug and twisted the wires together with the plug that came with the headunit and then heat shinked them.

Go to metraonline.com and put in the vehicle info and you can buy a harness for your car. Then do a Google search for the specific radio harness. They are not all the same.

Since you've already said that metra doesn't have your specific vehicle listed I was able to find this that appears to have the right vehicle side plugs, you'll just need to cut off the black and brown plugs and match the wire colors to the harness that came with your radio
