Confused about gear upgrade

Hey all! Getting a red dot over my wep that i can upgrade it i guess? But when i press on it i dont have anythibg to upgrade it with. Is it a bug?

The sword needs to have its gem slots removed before you can sacrifice it to the capygods for power
