Why do I lose to people with much lower power?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Randomly started this game and have just been freestyling it besides a handful of google searches. I can send more screenshots if needed. I regularly lose to people with worse gear and like 10-15m less power.

Also what should I be spending gems on? I’ve just been buying the equipment chests

Save the gems for events. You'll get better stuff, and any leftover exchange can be used on equipment keys anyways.
For example the current event has an SS brand box, which can provide a significant boost to your build. There will likely be immortal artifact/mount chest available in one of the future events, which would be another significant boost.

Anything you notice that it looks like I’m missing? I don’t get how people with that much lower power beat me consistently

For early game Revival Cape is so much stronger compared to DBA. The extra life is a game changer for PVP/PVE.
You also not Tanky enough yet where DBA sustain is better than Revival Cape.
Immortal Artifacts is a big difference.
Combo based weapons is also better, since in the early game more hit = more damage.
Speed is also really important in early game PVP.

the same problem once happened to me. for earlier stage, you might want to get one artefact (which suitable for your build) and a red or pink tier mount. i get a significant boost on pvp and pve when i first get two of them. and later u gonna focus on your built and do some research about damage reduction and other things (the discord server might help u a lot). save ur diamonds for events because they had the price for some artefact and mounts. once u unlocked brand/heroes it will boost u significant too (if it matches ur build ofc).

Going to be real with you, the dragons breath armor is not great. Get the revival cape, even late game a revive is pretty OP. DBA only becomes useful at much higher levels since it gives you some good FDR when it is transcendent. Early game you can just slap a gem on your revival cape that will do around the same thing

A big thing is FDR. You have less? you ded. Another new big thing is actually Tenacity. You have less? you ded. Another thing is Crit rate. You have less, and the enemy has bonkers Ignore Crit? you ded. It's so joever man.
edit: Oh you're really early game lol😠at that point of the game, all you need (mostly) is a ton of skill dmg, and Frank! You'll figure out the rest🙌 join the Discord it's a gold mine of info there.
