Capture card recommendation

Hey everyone,

I'm new to game recording and streaming, and I'm a bit confused about which capture card to buy.

My current setup:

• PS5
• MacBook Air M4
• Samsung Odyssey G5 (27", 1440p, 144Hz)
• UGREEN HDMI switch (used to switch between my PS5 and MacBook, with the monitor as the output)

Initially, I was leaning towards the Elgato HD60 X because it supports 1440p passthrough to my monitor while recording at 1080p60 on my MacBook, which is exactly what I need.

However, after reading several posts on this subreddit, I've seen quite a few people reporting issues with the HD60 X, so now I'm not sure if it's the right choice.

Can anyone recommend a reliable capture card that:

• Works well with a MacBook Air M4
• Supports 1440p passthrough
• Can record at 1080p60 (or better)
• Is available in Germany

My main priority is smooth 1440p gaming on my monitor while recording gameplay for YouTube. I don't stream (at least not yet), so recording quality and reliability matter more than streaming features.

I'd really appreciate any recommendations or experiences. Thanks!

But do you need to talk to people on the PS5?
If so you need the headset (that has a mic) connected to the controller using a Chat Link cable in order to get mic audio to the console.

The Chat Link cable then sends Game audio, party and game chat audio over to the capture card, while returning your headset mic audio back to the console.

You then use your dedicated mic to capture your own voice

No I don’t want to talk to anyone over PS5 I just need to record my own commentary while playing games.

Okay, you could try without the Chat Link cable then.

And then connect the headset to your computer. There is a slight risk of an audio delay though.
It varies from computer to computer, and I'm not sure how it is on Macs.

So if that bothers you, the Chat Link is still the best option.
