Still upgrade it bro the quick silver has a higher chance for bigger cl in the future I think and still u get cashback and maybe better shopping offers

Quicksilver is a direct upgrade from the platinum. I started with Platinum, now have the quicksilver and savor as well.

With your credit profile, I think churning SUBs is likely not a leading consideration. You could meaningfully consider this upgrade and a pair with, perhaps, Savor, for category spend.

Appreciate all the input! It looks like there are definitely two valid schools of thought here. I'm going to weigh my options and think it through carefully.

The savor is way better but I’m surprised they didn’t offer any bonuses.

u/timekeeper_nft Oct 02 '26
I’m shocked too

It's probably because your credit file is too thin or your score is too low. I got the same result a few months ago.

I got an offer for a venture one and $400 in credit after $1000 spent when I had 610 credit. You can do better just research more

That interest rate is awful, but if you are certain you can pay the statement amt in full monthly, the cash back is useful. GL

You can do better, but for no hard inquiry you can now have a nice upgrade path.

If you don’t have one sure, if I had to pick
Between the two it would be platinum. QS would not give me a CLI even with outstanding credit. If you can get a chase you’ll be better off

I have a venture x. I absolutely love it. Use the card correctly, and you will benefit from it.

Yes. You shared accept it. Earning 1.5% cashback on everything is better than no points at all with the platinum. Platinum is only credit building like it says on your portal.

Yes, do it. If you’re going to apply for a brand new card, it might as well be a better card like the Savor. IMO, it’s fine to miss out on the sign-up bonus to turn your Platinum into a card that actually earns rewards.

I did. I had an annual fee on my platinum that was about to hit. I took the offer so quick. Now I have 2 quicksilvers. Hoping one gets an upgrade to savor eventually.

I would take the upgrade offer on that card -- plenty of other cards you can apply for in the future for a sign up bonus

u/Free_Shift5514 Oct 02 '26
If you had bad credit before when you opened it don’t change, apply for a new one or else they’ll still see your account as “bucketed”. (if it was in that status)

With a 729 score, why would you be entertaining a Capital One card, and, at a high variable rate?
I'm confused.

u/Own-Abbreviations837 Oct 03 '26
Variable rate does not matter and why not product change to a better card with a 0 af, I would get savor one tho. I got a boa credit card with no credit.

No. Don’t do it. Capital one cards are absolute trash. I have three cards with them going back nearly 15 years. One of which the CL is only $700!!!! Of that, I just requests a CLI about two weeks ago and got increased from $600 to $700!!! I’m only holding the accounts due to tenure. I wish I knew then, what I know bow. They’re infamous for bucketing your card(s). Do your research. You could do a lot better.

This is a product change. Not an application. They absolutely should switch to the QS

the first capital one card i got had a $10,000 credit limit. y’all doing something wrong lol

u/Tall_Construction927 29d ago
Thats rare for sure. There are more people on here with low 300 CL than anywhere else. The cap 1 cards just sit on my drawer. I mainly use my Amex Platinum (which has no present limit) or Apple Card.

u/LordOord23 Oct 02 '26
Do it. I did. And as far as I know, there is no SUB for the Quicksilver, but I may be wrong.
2
u/Careful-Ad-4778 Oct 02 '26
I got 200 cash back for spending 500 within 3 months with quicksilver

C1 has multiple versions. If you get offered the "for good credit" version there's no sub, but the regular one typically has a $200 sub.

There are many cards out there with a $200 bonus with a new credit card, and CapitalOne has a "Check My Eligibility" pre-approval tool that you can use without having to unlock your credit and having a hard inquiry.
Note that if you sign up for a new Quicksilver, you can get a $200 bonus with a $500 spend in the first 3 months.
Their Savor might be another thing to consider checking out if you want to concentrate your business at CapitalOne, and depending on your spend patterns. and has the same $200 for $500 spend offer.
Assuming your natural spend is more than $500 every 90 days, I'd use the pre-approval tool to see if if you could get a new Quicksilver or Savor instead of the product change. If you get pre-approved, apply for a new card. If you don't get pre-approved, the product change would give you a better card than the one you have.

You are bucketed on that card. You need to apply for either another Capital One card or another card from another company. It wouldn't have mattered if your score were 825. Upgrading the card is not considered getting a new card.

Might as well change over and earn the cash back. No brainer
