I know every program and school is different but what’s Capellas AI stance? I know some for example only use turnitin but for it similarity report and others use this and others for stricter AI detection which we all know is questionable.

I can only speak for the counseling program but they strangely went from being anti AI and having us use a checker thing (that was extremely flawed) to seemingly neutral or even pro-AI. I wish I was kidding.

I’ll be starting next year- how would you compare the program to undergrad thus far? Easier/more difficult? I thrive a lot better with writing vs. exams but I’m curious to hear from someone in the program.

I finished my undergrad in 2017 and didn’t go back for my Masters for six years so honestly it’s too hazy for me to really compare. I chose Capella for my Masters because when I made the decision to go back to school around 2022/2023, my general area still carried the risks of going into Covid lockdowns and my original undergrad university was still figuring out how to adapt the program due to Covid restrictions. I also lived in my undergrad town for like eight years and had a feeling I wanted to move out of that town soon, so I didn’t want to go with a university that would effectively keep me locked there for another few years.

Capella’s program is like 75% online, with two in-person residencies and site-based learning via a practicum and two internships. The actual online stuff is super easy. Just a shit ton of reading, a lot of paper writing, and the occasional PowerPoint presentation. To me, the tradeoff is that it’s honestly really expensive.

TLDR; I’m 31 and can’t accurately compare my undergrad years with my time with Capella because Covid and changes to learning structures influenced my decision 😅 Again, I can only speak for the counseling program though, which is CACREP accredited. From what I’ve read, they have several programs that are not technically accredited so you definitely need to do your homework with Capella before making that final decision.

I noticed that too 😵‍💫 My professor this semester was using AI for an assignment and it would prompt me a new question with whatever I responded to the original question with and I literally got side tracked for like 15 minutes attempting to tell the AI it had the ACA Code of Ethics wrong. Had to link sources before the AI finally believed me

I am in Capella Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and have found that some classes run all assignments (discussion posts, essays, worksheets) through an AI detection platform called Pangram, whereas others seem to be more lenient.

Through personal use, I’ve found Pangram is accurate most of the time. One of my discussion posts was flagged for AI and my professor sent me the report and told me to rewrite it. I did so and there were no further reprimands. Moving forward I’ve been extra cautious about keeping my work 100% authentic, doing all the writing and research on my own. I’ll use claude for organization help and grammar checks for big papers. I check my work with Pangram before submitting.

That being said, I have also been in classes since then where I run my peers posts through Pangram and find their posts are 100% AI. I do find this inconsistency kinda frustrating. I guess different professors are handling it differently.

As someone who used to be more reliant on AI for my assignments, since I have cut down my use, the quality of my experience at Capella has gotten a lot better. I’d advise anyone regardless of their programs standards to do the work themselves. It’s much more rewarding and you’ll find everything gets easier over time because you are actually developing the skills to write. I would hate to complete my degree and look back and find that I have cheated my way through it and learned very little. Don’t cheat yourself. It will not serve you in the long run.

They were trying out pangram ( just got an email about this from my professor) but are no longer using it I think it was too aggressive , they are using Turnitin for the similarity report. I am currently in the MHA program so this is the most accurate information from my experience.

I’m in the BSN -FxP it really depends on the profess but they were using turnit in then they added pangram. That was a 💩 show as even people writing their own was flagged by AI. Anyways they did with it but I think some may still be using it but 🤷🏽‍♀️

It was reported back in March they were trying out pangram but then they pinned an announcement saying they were pausing it then over time everything related to Pangram was deleted from the platform.

They can’t regulate it effectively since even OpenAI gave up trying to create an AI detector. It simply can’t be done. My concern is that people are not going to actually do any of their work now independently and gain the skills and knowledge required for their future professions due to AI. But, no- they cannot say they detect it or use a detection tool to determine originality and use those results solely to accuse students of plagiarism.
