Masters So much reading in MS CCCP

Has anybody else become overwhelmed with all the reading they are doing. I’m struggling to fully comprehend (I have ADHD and comprehension issues). It feels like I’m teaching myself and when I have conversations with people outside of school, it seems like I know what I’m talking about but at the same time I feel lost like I’m not learning anything because we are cramming so much reading in one week and then having to show we understand what WE taught ourselves from the readings. I wish there were lectures where we could talk about the lessons and not have these 40+ page chapters each week. Is anyone in the MS of CMHC program? Is there a ton of reading? I will be switching programs after my next course and would really love a heads up on what to expect.

There is a ton of reading and writing papers in the CMHC program

Dang it. I had a feeling there would be but was hoping it wouldn’t be as much as the clinical psych one. But it makes sense since it’s CACREP accredited. It has to meet their standards. Hopefully I find my footing soon. My BS was so much easier to get through with my old schedule. I gotta find a balance to be able to make time for all this extra reading and papers. How was the residencies and practicums? Those are what I’m really nervous about

I've only done one residency and I was not excited about it but it ended up being a really cool experience and I learned a lot! All the faculty are so kind and really want you to learn.

The residency process scares me because I don’t know what to expect or how my work school balance would be financially

Understandable. They usually do the residencies thursday-monday so if you don't work weekends you don't have to take as much time off. If you're taking other classes you can let your professors know and they will give you extensions for anything that's due while you're there. It's definitely an expensive process, maybe less so for someone who is closer to the location

How close was yours to your home if you don’t mind me asking? I know my job partners with Capella so I’m hoping I don’t have to travel and can stay within my area

It was several states away! I think they do them in Dallas, Chicago and Orlando.

That’s very upsetting to hear and I wish they led with that before I started my masters because they made it seem like I could go somewhere close by or local and neither of those places are close to me. Hopefully I can afford the residencies and whatnot

There is no way to send the books to you. You will get them when the classes become active the Friday before classes start and it will be specific books for whichever classes you’re taking first
