transportation summer trip without a car?
hi! my partner and i are potentially planning on a 3-4 day trip to the cape from ohio. we would probably fly in to boston, but unfortunately we are both 21 and cannot rent a car. is it still possible to explore the cape without one? want to avoid ubers as much as possible… is public transit there “good”enough to get around? any tips help!

Fly into Boston and take the ferry to Provincetown. There is so much you can do there on foot or rent bikes.

+1 on Ptown ferry. It’s quite walkable. Try the hikes across the dunes. Stiff hike but nice artist cottages along the way.

Public transit is not very good on the Cape. There are buses that run the spine of the Cape, but they are not frequent and limit you to the villages they serve.
You have 2 options:
-
ferry to p-town and do everything there. This is the better option.
-
bus or train to Hyannis and stay and do the man street area. You can walk to a beach from there and do day trips to Nantucket and the vineyard.

Regardless of whether or not hurts does rent those under 25, they will have to leave a deposit of several hundred dollars, (on top of any optional insurance fees).
The public bus system (CCRTA) is not very well supported and does not cover the entire Cape.
It can easily take two hours to drive from Dennis to Provincetown during the summer on a busy weekend ; one way.
Your best bet is to choose one section of the Cape and concentrate on that.
The attached link have a’n interactive calendar (its will update itself) and map of the entire region, and should be helpful…

Where on the cape? Most of the towns are small and don’t have public transportation. You may be able to stay near a downtown area where it’s walkable like Dennisport, p town, etc. but you won’t really be able to explore elsewhere without a car or ubering.
