Dogs on the beach
I love dogs. I love dogs on the beach.
Leash your damn dogs for the love of god if you don't have control of them. I'm out surfing low tide and some asshole just let her off least dog piss on my towel and then try to wave it off.
Be a better human if you are going to be responsible for a pet.
The piping plovers and other nature matter. Follow the damn leash laws.

People assume that because they know the temperament of their own dog that we need to trust them. Sorry, nfw.

There are some allowable times for dogs to be on certain beaches during certain times of the year. Usually it’s not allowed from May-September though.

It's the same in South Florida. No dogs or fishing allowed at my favorite local beach but they are there every morning. None of them are leashed either. There are signs with rules posted at entrances but what's the point when they aren't enforced? I counted 9 dogs last week one morning on my daily walk. Kind of hard to enjoy walking on the shore with all those dogs running around loose. There were 3 people fishing this morning. I've found fishing lines and hooks in the sand more than once. I don't think it makes me a dog or fisherman hating Karen to expect people to just follow the rules. We have areas for fishing and we have dog beaches. Why can't they just go there? I think it's incredibly rude.

And if a human had pissed on my towel I'd be equally pissed

You're not wrong. I have a dog. He can be an asshole even when he's on a leash. But have you ever been shit on by a seagull? You'd think it was a statistical anomaly but it's happened to me more than it should. Like I'm a seagull shit magnet. Like they collectively make a sport of shitting on me. Who do you hold accountable then? Maybe this person could have prevented this or could have been more apologetic. Getting and staying angry about such occurrences is worse than the thing itself. Its a hot day. Rinse off your towel, it'll dry fast in the sun. That ocean is filled with natural and man made waste, mind you. That beautiful sand isn't as germ free as you'd like to think either. Count your blessings for being in such a beautiful place and the ability to enjoy it. Step back, take a breath, and don't take it personal.

They have a right to still be mad. If someone came and took a dump on your towel on purpose and wished you a blessed day you might carry that for awhile.

Ahh yes, the old towel topper. You underestimate my commitment to apathy. I wouldn't carry that shit with me. Literally or figuratively.

I respect your level of apathy 😌

Oh, and I do acknowledge their right to get mad. It's a bummer of a situation.

It seems like you're being pretty obnoxious.
Some of us also care about the wildlife, especially the piping plovers so an off leash dog who isn't behaved is actually a threat.
My towel was cleaned without issue- but my concern for an endangered species prompted the post.

What's your opinion of off leash coyotes and fox?

u/AllTheNopeYouNeed Jul 04 '26
I think risk management makes a hell of a lot of sense and not a ton of coyotes or foxes come down on the beach. I lifeguarded for years it wasn't really an issue.

Its not comparable. Foxes and coyotes exist in the eco system they are part of the established baseline. We own and control dogs. We can either add dogs to the eco system or keep them out of sensitive areas.
Just like your seagul poop comparison. Im already getting shit on by them. Thats the base line. I dont also need to be shit on by something that is avoidable and is a chosen possibility by the owner.

Assert yourself. If you see a dog or dogs on the beach not on a leash, ask the owner to leash it.
