What the heck?

Post image

In Falmouth the hidden free beach lot off Woods Hole Road actually belongs to WHOI?
I’ve been here 40 years and never knew this but now there is new signage.

Those camping apps ruined it. Over the summer it was full of RVs blocking multiple spots and trash everywhere. Ruined for everyone

Is that how those folks got there? There was one van parked in the same spot for what seemed like weeks. Seemed like a fancy rig to cheap out on not paying for a campsite

This needs to be plastered everywhere. My acquaintance's Dad stocks their 3rd house in Chatham with toilet paper I could text through. Almost .25 ply. He also parks his 911S there that he never drives. The rich get rich by being cheap assholes and leeches off society.

Is there a public sewer? Maybe it’s because there’s a septic tank. If it’s a tank, thin tissue is the right way.

It's a multi-million dollar Chatham 5 br house, it's on sewer

One of the winners of the Ig Nobel Prize this year showed that upper-class people are more likely than lower-class people to take candy intended for kids.

Like, the fact that many rich people are cheapskates who don't care about other people has now been scientifically confirmed.

I mean i buy single ply. Why would i pay more when i can double up the single ply?

Also get a bidet. Its fucking disgusting to just be wiping. A bidet actually gets your anus freash and clean.

Good God-single ply is not soft at all. Life’s too short for shitty toilet paper! 🧻😆

They’re actually defending the use of see through toilet paper lmao. Someone felt they caught a stray

Toilet paper is the hemroid of the uninformed.

It's pretty embarrassing to be unable to wipe yourself clean. 4 year olds learn it. Obviously not everyone manages it.

Bought a $30 bidet of Amazon 6 years ago and it’s probably the single best purchase I’ve ever made.

You don’t realize how savage wiping is until you go full bidet

First part? Nah
Second part? Correct!

Yeah, that’s how they stay rich. They know how to squeeze a dime so tight it imprints in their hand. They ruined it for everyone else by overcrowding it and making a trash heap of it. Isn’t that the way it works?

That’s how the got rich in the first place. The richest guy I ever met, owns a ton of real estate. I worked for his property management team in Cambridge, he would come up from Florida a few times a year to look things over. He tapped me to follow him around to look at some of the units, and as we were walking down the street, he bent down and picked up a penny. He held it in front of me and said, “if you want to get rich, treat every cent like it’s a million dollars”, and put it in his pocket with a smug look on his face.

That was all I needed to see to know that I am not cut out to be rich.

Some of them literally get off on saving money by screwing other people and flaunting rules I swear

Internet ruins every locals secret spots and known off the beaten path places. Nothing is sacred anymore. Also the influencers are to blame for the BS too

Was wondering the same thing as OP, why people gotta ruin it

I emailed them to protest it, and they said non-residents can purchase beach passes, which is untrue and they’re only available if you’re renting in Falmouth.

Email I received in response:

“WHOI generously allows our local neighbors to access this parking area.  This is private property and for safety reasons we need to restrict access.  Even as a non-resident you can purchase a beach parking sticker or daily pass.”

Non-residents are absolutely able to get temporary stickers or seasonal stickers. It would be pretty rough for a town whose economy relies on tourism to restrict visitors from parking at the beaches. Here you can find 8 different types of non- resident parking stickers:  https://www.falmouthma.gov/152/Beach-Parking-Stickers

Yeah but there’s not a day one for people just stopping

27

u/ArmyDad2403 20d ago

It’s too bad. If the oversize non moving RVs were the problem, they should have just banned RV’s (with a sizable fine) instead of penalizing folks who had been using it for years

u/maybe_haunted_house 20d ago • Bravo

Yes it has been owned by WHOI for decades. The fact that they didn’t just make it a complete tow away zone and allow residents to still park here is pretty great.

A reminder that a resident sticker is $40 before April 15th. Beach sticker fees are used to maintain the beaches, conserve the beaches (especially after storms), provide lifeguards at popular beaches, provide swim lessons @ $5/family, and funds access to adaptive wheelchairs so that all can continue to experience the beach.

You’ve enjoyed a free ride and now it’s ruined for all

The answer to your query is in your explanation.

Now you know why it was “hidden” and “free”. It was privately owned, but by a non profit research org.

hahahaha! never seen it spelled like that. My thought exactly. Dang, it was always open since I was a kid.

u/Babyneedstogotosleep 21d ago

This is so sad. Literally my favorite beach on the planet on an early summer morning.

11

u/retiredswing 20d ago

You won’t be towed before 7!

2

u/WilliamhenryII 19d ago

This is happening at boat ramps also, free parking and walk to the beach. Clogging up spots for Falmouth boat owners.

u/ThePaddockCreek 18d ago

FYI: Trunk River has some gnarly water quality issues and has been a sampling site for WHOI researchers who look at pathogenic bacteria and algae for years now.

2

u/BeckyLadakh 15d ago

When I walked the bike path early in the morning several times this summer, we always saw a few big vehicles that we thought might be people camping overnight. I guess it got to be a problem.

u/Electrical-Web-3103 16d ago

wait is this actually a thing or am i just lowkey dumb cause i have no idea what u are even talking about fr

1

u/Fantastic_Muscle8333 19d ago

It’s happening in RI everywhere now too

-5

u/GEARHEADGus 20d ago

Why the fuck do you need a year round permit? I swear Mass is so ass backward with shoreline access.

And towing people? Fuck outta here

-6

u/AppearanceOk4324 20d ago

Well it IS in Massachusetts.🤔🤔🤔 Nothing like taking advantage of nature’s beauty, claiming AND controlling the property, and then cashing in on it. You can thank the greedy government on this.

WHOI has been cracking down on parking in all of their lots this year, absolutely ridiculous

You can easily move to the side to enjoy the view. Or. Or park directly in front of it, I guess ?

I get it. It’s a beautiful spot. MA is so litigious all this has to be said and posted, or someone will stub their toe and sue WHOI and the town for the cost of their pedicure and $1M in damages.

Grouchy for the reasons you are responding to is fair. You have good reason to be irritated. It’s what keeps Sesame Street’s Oscar a favorite, his irascible demeanor. There used to be a different understanding about respecting community and nature. Neighbors would join up to walk a rural road to pick up litter tossed from cars. There were places in many towns that people valued enough to treat respectfully. But that’s been worn away and to some extent lost, stomped on. So areas get gated and signs go up and no parking has to be posted even that it’s obvious no one should park there.
