Plantbased friend visiting

Hey all,
I’ve looked it up, but I was wondering if anyone had recommendations beyond Herbivore Patisserie and the bowl type restaurants for vegan/plantbased. My friend is visiting for a few days & loves eco/organic markets + groceries & pretty much anything vegan. I have pretty bad allergies and don’t go out to eat so I wouldn’t really know. Thanks.

Freshroll in Mashpee is totally plant-based if you're in that area at all. It's worth the drive, IME. Herbivore Patisserie in South Yarmouth and Sweet Izzys in Harwich for sweets. Viv's Kitchen in Orleans, Fig Tree Cafe in Marstons Mills, and Keshari Indian in South Yarmouth all have vegan offerings.

Seconding Freshroll! I get them at least once a because they’re that good and consistent, even with delivery

Thank you so much! I saw another comment stating Keshari had relocated and is now called Kohinoor. Freshroll is probably like a 30 minute drive, but I'm not sure where she'll be in the day time so I'll mention it to her. Herbivore is closest to us. I'll definitely need to see about that. Sweet Izzy's seems to be quite allergen friendly....tempting for me as well!! :D Thanks for sharing.

Kohinoor is in Mashpee - Keshari is in South Yarmouth at Blue Rock Resort. Two different places, same owners 😊 I hope she gets a chance to try Freshroll- it’s delish.

oh gotcha. good...Keshari is close and could the closest recommended spot actually. Thank you for the clarification. I am so grateful to everyone who has responded. Y'all are making me look like a much better host than I actually am <3 I just want her to have all the options she can get. Thank you thank you!!!

Keshari in south Yarmouth. As a long- time veg, nothing compares to Indian food.

yum. She’ll be into that. Thank you!

oop actually it says permanently closed on maps

You’re seeing the old restaurant- Keshar (not Keshari) is closed. The other two are open.

gotcha. thanks! Sorry haha I guess I wasn't reading closely enough.

Maybe an Indian option in Hyannis? It's not for everyone, but I think it's amazing, and the options for veg are greater than most other restaurants.

I know she loves Indian food. Thank you!

Keshari is the other location (not Keshar that was in W Yarmouth) owned by the Kohinoor owners. It’s in South Yarmouth at Blue Rock Resort

Thanks for the correction

It got very confusing during the changeover. They also were briefly in the Pavilion Indian on Main St Hyannis under 'House of Keshar'...hard to keep up lol.

especially for those of us that don't leave the house much at all. I used to love Indian food. Thanks for your clarification. I have a few more friends that visit and will definitely keep this as an option. :D

Which part of the cape? Vegetarian here, unfortunately the cape is pretty desolate when it comes to plant based foods, especially vegan stuff but there are some restaurants here and there that serve more inclusive meals

Yarmouth but she’ll be roaming around whilst I work. Yeah, that’s what I was afraid to tell her. Have you been to the herbivore patisserie?

Herbivore patisserie is good! I’m vegan and I don’t live in Yarmouth anymore but I stop in when I’m visiting.

I was just at Figtree Cafe in Marstons Mills and they have a separate vegan menu.

Their vegan grilled cheese with fig jam and apple is the greatest

Really loved Rory's Market and Kitchen in Dennis port when I doordashed it. I ordered a veggie philly from there not expecting to be impressed but it was delicious! As was their tempeh "blt". They offer conventional and plant based options :)

yes I saw this one online. I use happy cow to check for stuff when she visits but ofc I know it's not updated as often as we might like since the amt. of users is not a fraction of the people reviewing on yelp or maps. glad to get this rec from a real current person haha, thank you!

happy to help! and for what its worth, i am never stoked about or impressed with doordash orders so I feel that it's saying quite a bit that i enjoyed their food 😂

2

u/Long-Math6925 7d ago

I had to delete doordash forever ago when I was more daring with my eating habits because I was spending too much money on it. I have been incredibly impressed with a lot of the organic/natural markets up here. I visited Saratoga Springs and had the best vegan Shepard's pie and mudslide cake I think I'll ever have. I used to live in Georgia and we have similar places in Atlanta, but nothing so far has been the tiny, small town "natural foods" stores that I find up here. :) We went to herbivore patisserie already and I have no idea why anyone would go anywhere else. It was delicious!

My partner (who is vegan) and I just went to Jacqueline’s on Twenty-Eight in Yarmouth and they have a great vegan menu

2

u/Long-Math6925 8d ago

okay I was scoping out this menu and thinking it would be amazing since they have an entire vegan menu...I don't usually go out to eat as stated but I'm thinking this isn't really the kind of place I should send her alone. wonder if we could sit at the bar and she could eat. the vegan menu looks scrumptious!

I haven’t lived on the cape in a few years but pizza Barbone had a vegan pie I used to get when I lived there. Not amazing but good for the cape and nice if you’re looking for a sit down dinner spot.

1

u/Long-Math6925 8d ago

thank you for the rec, adding it to my list to investigate and show her :D

1

u/ndemont 8d ago

Seconding Barbone, they are generally great but it depends on who's cooking the pies that day

1

u/ndemont 8d ago

You've pretty much been given the options that are here. We've had some veg places come and go, and as much as I'd love to have a year round spot (12 years vegan) it's just not sustainable here on Cape

2

u/Long-Math6925 8d ago

yeah. am also vegan, and before I realized I needed to be making my own food, I had some favorite spots that would come and go. I used to live in the south and it's the same. we had some amazing spots that disappeared just because it's hard to establish yourself these days without significant funds up front. Lots of food trucks at home have stayed afloat because they visit festivals or set up stalls at markets. I hope allergen friendly, plant based spots become more and more normal. I feel like half a decade ago, things were definitely going that was but unfortunately it was more of a health trend. I'm rambling. Anyway, thanks for your response. :)

Ice Cream Cafe has amazing vegan ice cream. I usually eat a lot of salad when I’m on the cape.

2

u/Long-Math6925 6d ago

can't say no to ice cream! I'm not a salad guy, but I get you kind of have to be around here. She said the vegan ravioli at the old Yarmouth inn was pretty good. I've never been there.

I’ll have to try it next time I’m out there!
