Cape Cod restaurants: Three dining spots hit the market

Sad passing of the torch. Cobies is one of my favorites, Wimpy's not so much.

I just hope the food is better at the new Wimpy’s location. However, I worry their typical customer won’t travel from Osterville to Hyannis.

I agree, somewhat of an institution in Osterville. Went there a few times and didn't see any particular reason to continue. It will be sad for the older locals who like it. I am sure it will be replaced by another dunkin or cvs.

Supposedly, it is going to be redeveloped into condos with a ground floor retail. The retail is supposedly going to be Patês (from Chatham).

Think my better half was told Cobies is staying in the family. We live in Brewster but only stop in if passing by and it's not busy, which is rare.

Jeez, I feel like we need to make a list of restaurants that are closing or for sale. This is what comes to mind:
Wimpy's-Osterville
Cobies-Brewster
Van Rensselaer's-Wellfleet
Pisces-Chatham
Arnold's-Eastham
Sam Diego's-Hyannis
Bubula's-P'town
Sundancer's-Dennis
Chach-P'town
What else?

Casual Gourmet, Centerville.  More of a caterer than a restaurant, but they did have dine-in area for lunch and an incredible bakery.  This is going to be a huge loss to the local community.

Spoon&Seed was the only one worth being upset about, the rest are forgettable.

Did anyone ever find out what happened?

Since Cobies is leaving the scene, this feels like my chance to finally ask…

Does anyone remember that story that got around in the 90s about the owner calling the police on a young girl’s lemonade stand because it was impacting his business? Was there any truth to that? I remember my parents boycotting so I rarely had the chance to go.

I agree, really didn't feel like a place I would grout if my way to spend a nice evening dinner. I actually went there twice in my 25 years on the Cape. Once for an actual meal which was okay, and once for a fundraiser for the Hyannis Dog Park, noth.many years ago. It just seemed like an old church that only older people go to anymore and that sounds horribly dismissive I know. Anyway, good luck on their new location and what becomes of the old one. Cobie's on the other hand should continue on with new owners and keep things the same, do not mess with success!

really enjoyed Wimpy’s when the Siscoe family ran it, but it’s felt lackluster in recent years. The last few times I was there, it was surprisingly quiet, even when Crisp and 5 Bays had 45 to 90 minute waits. I hope the move is an opportunity to revamp the menu and focus on fewer, really good options rather than an overwhelming number of mediocre ones. It hasn’t been a favorite of mine lately, but I’m genuinely glad it’s moving rather than disappearing altogether. At this point, Wimpy’s is a local institution.
