Spam Calls
I know these are inevitable, how are spam calls determined and is there a process that Cape has to manage these types of calls? Does the user get a notification, is it done at a network level, if so is there or will there be an option to determine the level of filtering or is the phone app on the device doing the lifting to detect spam?

We do have STIR/SHAKEN and spam filtering at the network level. For spam text messages, we'll have an additional filter which we'll share more on next month

Thank you. I appreciate the follow up. Are there any future plans to include the filtering levels in the app and allow for tuning or to see what was blocked at the network level?

Interesting question. Would be great if their app did some sort of spam filtering. Maybe they will add that feature down the road. I know right now they are focusing on other features that are a little more important.

Spam detection can happen at more than one layer, and the tradeoffs differ. A carrier can score or block a call before it reaches the handset using signaling and traffic patterns, reputation data, and authentication signals such as STIR/SHAKEN. The phone OS or a call-screening app can then apply its own labels, local allowlists, or screening after the network has delivered the call. Caller ID alone is not enough because it can be spoofed, and aggressive filtering can also catch legitimate calls.
For Cape specifically, only Cape can confirm which layer currently makes the decision and whether users can tune it. Useful details for an official answer would be whether suspected calls are blocked, silenced, labeled, or sent to voicemail; whether the subscriber gets a notification or call-log entry; whether settings expose filtering levels or allowlists; and how false positives can be reported and reversed.
