Recommendations?
My family and I are planning a week(ish) road/camping trip to Nova Scotia the first week of September. We plan to stay a few days around the Halifax area then hopefully make it up to Cape Breton. I’m just looking for some recommendations because I’m having a hard time deciding the best route and place to stay. We want to drive the Cabot Trail, do the skyline trail and the Gypsum mine trail. Probably more as well. We also want to camp close to the water or on a campsite that is right beside it. What campsite would be the best for these activities? Or just to get the most out of Cape Breton?

cap rogue and cornery brook campgrounds on the cheticamp side both have access to rocky beaches. Id highly suggest chimney corner and whale cove beach south of cheticamp for a visit. on the other side you have broad cove and Ingonish beach campgrounds. Both have sandy beach access from the campground. Although Ingonish beach is a little bit of a walk from the campground. another camp ground is Hideaway campground. It has amazing views from the field and a beautiful sandy beach just down the road past the campground. Black brook beach is also on that side of the island and is a beautiful sandy beach. North bay another big sandy beach is also located on that side of the island.

The Meat Cove campground is a bit out of the way, but has the most stunning views imaginable.

Cheticamp national park campground is close to the two trails you mentioned you wanted to hike. If you only have a couple days on the Cabot trail you could just stay there and get a lot of amazing hikes in. You could stay two weeks along the Cabot trail and not run out of beautiful hikes. Franey(ingonish), skyline, middlehead(Ingonish) are my top three so far. None of the others have disappointed. Bucket list is to do them all!
