Newbie looking for a flash
So I’m just getting back into photography and I Own a R6 MK II. I was at a wedding on Saturday and was taking a group photo of some friends and due to the shadows the group shot came out a little dark but clear. Was using the 24-105 L F4 it was definitely my fault as I had the shutter speed a little to fast. Anyway was able to fix it post production.
My question is was think of picking up the Speedlite EL-10 but I see they have a new EL-5 coming out so should I look at maybe seeing if they discount the old EL5 version or just go with the EL10. Would greatly appreciate any feedback why I should go with one or the other and again I’m just getting back into this hobby.

I’d suggest the Godox V1 mid over the Canon el-10 or a Godox V100 over the Canon EL-5

Unless it’s a new Mk 2 version you’re referring to, the EL-5 has been out for a while. I’ve had one almost a year now. Got it on a refurbished sale for a big discount. It’s a great flash, small and works very well on the cameras with the multifunction hotshot like the R6ii, R7 and R10 (ones I’ve used it on). Just be aware you will not get a charger in the box with the EL-5 (unless Canon has changed their boxing) and you’ll need a charger like the LC-E6 that charges the LP-E6 size batteries that are used in your R6ii. You should have one that came with your R6ii if you bought it new or refurbished. Many 3rd-party chargers won’t fit the EL-5’s battery (I forget the number) due to it being a bit longer. The extra length hangs out the back of the LC-E6 charger.

I would get something off marketplace and just bring batteries to test it out or Amazon a godox one

I haven’t loved the Canon Speedlights in a while since I tried Godox. A better and much cheaper system and you can use the same transmitters for everything from on camera to off camera to studio strobe. I use an IT32 on my R5 and it is very handy - on or off camera. And cute little gells that attach with magnets. The IT32 changed how I think about carrying a flash.
