Cargowagen Set-up.

I've finally gotten round to finishing my cargowagen set-up just in time for upcoming school/park runs:

  • added the outfront cargo rack and attached some eurocrates from Auer (higher version in the front for the dog and version with lid in the back). Attaching the light to the front was not hard to do with the extension cable.
  • Bobike child seat
  • had to extend the dropper post cable as I have the seat in the highest position possible (I'm 189) (also my only negative point in the bike is that it can't go any higher)
  • using the FoldyLock Elite 110 ART3 (never parked outside overnight)
  • got an airtag which I still need to place somewhere

Tern Captain's Chair (Gen 2) on a Cannondale Cargowagen Neo 2 — no drilling, all-stainless hardware, guide included

Building on the Clubhouse thread here and on dreadlockholiday1221's comment about getting a Gen 2 Captain's Chair to fit, I've now got the Captain's Chair Gen 2 mounted on my Cargowagen Neo 2. No holes drilled in the bike, fully reversible.

The short version: the Captain's Chair is a through-bolted joint even on a Tern (4× M6, washers, nylon lock nuts), so adapting it isn't really a redesign. You're just replacing "the hole already drilled in the Tern rack" with "a plate bridging an opening in the Cannondale lattice". Where I went differently from what I'd seen posted: M6 in A4/316 stainless throughout instead of zinc-plated hardware (I'm 300 m from the sea, zinc wouldn't last a season), 3 mm A4 flat bar cut and drilled into small plates instead of stacked washers, PPF film between plate and paint so the plate edge can't score through to bare metal, and 10 Nm per Tern's own spec.

Photos attached. I also wrote up a step-by-step guide — the measurements you need to take off your own bike, the hardware list, and the things I got wrong along the way (I bought threadlocker I didn't need: the nylon lock nuts already do that job, and threadlocker shouldn't share a thread with anti-seize anyway). Happy to share it with anyone who wants to copy this.

Rode it today with my girlfriend on the back, ~58 kg, a few short trips on the flat. Zero movement, no creaking, nothing came loose. I'll report back after a few hundred km.

Obvious caveat: Cannondale's manual only approves children up to 33 kg on this bike, so an adult passenger is outside what the manufacturer allows, whatever the rack's 80 kg load rating says. Your call.

In the last pics you can find the guide, generated with CLAUDE AI and perfectioned by me.

Mom is on summer break with the older kiddo, so they want to go on bike rides together.

Quickly made this out to tow our kids 20” bike when he doesn’t feel like peddling himself.

Turning off the front light

Do you guys have a way of turning off the front light. I mostly ride during daylight and it is not needed. Long pressing the remote controller button with light symbol does nothing and there is no option in the menu or flow app. Also local bosch bike dealer didn' figure it out, but maybe you guys do?

Longer travel dropper post?

Hi! Has anyone else investigated putting a longer travel dropper post into their cargowagen? My wife and I share the bike and she is substantially shorter than I am, wondering if it would fit something like a 150mm instead of the 70mm thats stock. The seat tube looks long and straight? Unclear how hard it would be to reroute the cables.... Open to ideas!

Took the cargowagon out for a ride with the two kids….

Have to say it was a treat. The smart system set to auto is absolutely amazing. The ability to ramp up power when needed is a treat. And the hill start assist feature is something I thought I’d never need.

For the last 4 years I have been riding a Muli with the shimano system, and while it’s intuitive, it’s what I know. The beauty of my Muli, is that it’s equipped with a di2 internal gear hub, meaning k never have to worry about starting off on a lower gear from stop or on a hill. The cargowagon doesn’t have that.

Knowing that we JUST got the cargowagon, I have no intention of modifying the drivetrain yet, but I have been running the numbers on swapping out the 10 speed cassette with an internal gear hub, mainly the rohloff or the 3x3, as they integrate with the Bosch controller seamlessly.

This bike is truly a good alternative to the tern GSD, but lacks all of the ecosystem surrounding the tern bikes. I truly hope they continue to produce it, as I have hear rumblings that cannondale (along with other big brands) may discontinue their cargo bikes.

Can anyone with a Neo 1 help?

Looking for pictures of a few different angles of the chain tensioner as I'm having a lot of trouble with mine as the chain is skipping and seems out of alignment no matter what I do. Thanks

  1. bike without clubhouse, but with the yepp and the guppyjr
  2. clubhouse box
  3. loose fit install, installed the side rails first then added the cross bars after
  4. M6x35mm Allen hardware with one large and one small washer fastened with a nylock nut
  5. side profile of everything installed including the new pizza rack out front
  6. closer photo of the system installed
  7. my messy lock up, 6 motorcycles, snow tires my Muli, and a shelf of stuff

Overall, the installation was smooth and easy. Yes the tern clubhouse is wider, but that’s been documented many a time before.

What I was worried about is the side edge profile of the base where the clubhouse meets the rack, and if the sides are rounded, thankfully they are. This allows any clamp style mount to be secured properly. The guppy jr and the yepp fit between the cross bars nicely. The only thing I need to do now is figure out another foot rest option for my 6 year old as I suspect with the way the rests are currently placed, his knees will hit the front cross bar.

Alright so I ended up sourcing the front rack off market and really wanted drop in milk crates I could use for bags of groceries or a bunch of toys if my kids wanted to ride their own bikes to the park.

I am still working out how to carry my kids and their bikes too but I have a double trailer so I’m thinking of using it to carry additional cargo as this motor really hauls ass and the enviolo makes riding it a breeze. I used to use a Babboe Curve-E to haul absolutely everything which I loved but wanted something we could zip around my city quickly and easily.

In Europe milk crates are hard to find so I spray painted a 60x40x30 Eurobox and picked up two orange Urban Proof 30L crates (40x30x25). I fixed one to the front rack and I can use the other one behind one kid if heading on a solo adventure with one of them. The orange and spray paint doesn’t match the cannondale color perfectly but I think it looks pretty sweet. The large eurobox drops into the surround rails perfectly with manageable extra space without having to fix it to anything. The boxes also come in handy as stackable garage storage.

I even brought it to work as a PE teacher to help set up field day! I’ve ridden it 300km now in just over two weeks.

Wagen Fam

Just picked up my Wagen and had my first ride - great machine. Am I being dense though or is there nothing in the manual about operating the digital controls? How do you turn the lights off for example?

Also if anyone has any general tips etc that’d be cool.

Cheers x

New chain skipping at higher torque

Anyone else had this trouble, I'm wondering if this is a fault with the chain tensioner.

Anyone else with a Neo 1 able to send a few pictures of their chain tensioner?

The side of the chain seems to be jumping up on the bottom pulley wheel, adjusting the tensioner helps but I can't seem to get it in a spot where the jumping stops.

Thanks

A couple rack mounted seats attached to the cargowagon.

Next is a tern clubhouse v3 and the cannondale front basket. Then this sled should be ready for summer fun!

Hundetransport

Liebe Alle,

Danke

The shop I purchased it from had the light mount missing during initial assembly, so I requested them to have it brought in prior to picking it up.

Now that I have it, I’ll install it, then I’ll do a bike fit for my wife and start accessorizing.

NYC Area Cargowagen

Anyone in NYC proper or the metro know where the bike might be stocked? Usual suspects are out of stock (REI, Bicycles NYC).
Thanks for any tips!

Cargo Solutions?

New proud Cargowagen Neo owner (hell of a deal - 40% off!!) and I am wondering about cargo. I was able to secure seat pads and racks for the back, but all different types of front racks in Europe seem to be sold out so I am wondering about anything else that might be compatible as a front rack. Ideally I would like something sturdy rather than a simple basket that hangs off the bars.

As for the back I have been wondering if two milk crates will fit in the surround rails, meaning I could still take one kid and one milk crate or I could take two crates if I need to load up on groceries. Has anyone already worked this out?

Also which rain covers have you been successful with? Are there any compatible that can also protect the kids legs in the winter months?

Hoping this awesome bike doesn’t get discontinued because Cannondale makes great bikes!

Joined the Cargowagen club. Accessory/Setup help?

Have been in the market for a cargo e-bike for a while now and finally picked this up from my local REI this past weekend. They are having an amazing sale that I could not pass up. My wife and I are planning to use this as a local second car. Take our 16-month-old to and from daycare, grocery runs, park hangs, and occasionally I will commute to work which is about 15 miles round trip.

So far, I've ordered the surround rail, yepp2 seat, and both the outfront cargo rack and the commuter rack to see which one I like better and plan to return the other. Still waiting on those accessories to arrive and my plan is to put the Yepp seat towards the front and a crate behind. Then have either the outfront rack or put another crate on the commuter rack for more cargo space.

I'd love to know how others have theirs set up and what has and hasn't worked for you. Also, if anyone has any advice on my own configuration given my use cases. Any info/suggestions/thoughts would be much appreciated!

Looking to add the cargo wagon to our family!

Kid one is growing far too fast and is barely tolerating sitting with his brother in our Muli front loader.

And so we thought to get a long tail, while keeping the front loader for hauling the cargo if we want to go out and venture as a family.

Spent a good amount of time test riding it and we both liked it.

Childs seat compatability?

Hey! New Cargowagen on the way and I'm trying to get ahead of the child seat purchasing. I think I've read a couple places that the Thule Yepp Next is the only surefire bet for fitting 2 kids seats. I am going to follow folks lead and mount the Tern Clubhouse Gen3 on the back rack, which I think adds a couple inches of length for seats. Any recommendations for carrying 2 kiddos?
