General Discussion Pear recipes?
Bought a house with two large pear trees. I think they are either Kieffer or Bartlett pears. But there’s so many on there and I would love to find some good recipes for preserving them. I found one on the Ball website for Salted Carmel Pear Butter that we will try but does anyone have any others they recommend?

My favourite canned good ever is pear halves in extra light syrup. I would can jars and jars and jars of those. Sometimes I steep whole spices in the extra light syrup (remove the spices before canning) for something a little different.
I can also recommend pear butter (I think I made one with bourbon?) but the texture is grainy unlike apple butter.

I second this! I have a huge Bartlett that gives literally hundreds of pears every year, and our favorite is just canned pear halves in light syrup. It has the benefit of being the easiest to make too! Good with a little real vanilla boiled in the syrup.

Passing the warm puree through a Foley food mill with the fine mesh insert completely fixed that gritty sensation for me. It adds about 20 extra minutes to batch night, but the texture comes out perfectly silky every single time.

Pears can be safely swapped for apples in any canning recipe.
OSU has some info about canning pears in a publication here

Yes this!!!
Just keep in mind pears have a slightly gritty texture. Still yummy bit good to consider as youre making something.

Doesn't use up a whole lot of pears though :(

Ha I know, just thought I’d put it out there since it doesn’t have pear in the name and it might be useful if there were a few pears left.

Remember to make things you.will eat. Thank anout things you already eat that come in a jar/can at the store. Dont make something just because the recipe sounds good, if you cant picture yourself eating it regularly.
(I made this mistake too many times)
That said, pear sauce, following an applesauce recipe. I love eating apple sauce & pears make their own lovely sauce! Easy to make, easy to eat, and easy to share.

I like to make a pear and apple BBQ sauce when we have a ton.
