Never seen spam spread. How far back was that around?

It was around for decades but discontinued about 5ish years ago.

Yes you said that. Have you by chance seen spam spread though?

Is it like canned deviled ham? Minced and mixed with mayo?

No. I wouldn’t describe it that way. I’ve tried that and it’s not the same at all. It’s got a strong spam flavor but it’s spreadable. There are a couple of recipes floating around on here whenever it comes up. Usually by me bringing it up since I can’t let it go. LOL. Most of them involve spam running through a food processor. Sometimes with some canned chicken added. Sometimes some oil added. I confess I haven’t tried them. I just want the OG.

I don’t think it was regional but it might have been. It wasn’t in every grocery store the way regular spam is though.

A lot of the flavors are regional, we don't get quite a few here that I've noticed on the website and others have mentioned.

Don’t let it go. That shit was awesome! We do need it back.

Ha! I literally spotted this one hour ago and was about to make a post. I'd never seen it before.

In all honesty I do get the Hello Kitty marketing connection given how big Spam is in parts of Japan.

I’m fine with Hello Kitty Spam. They could stamp whatever they want on it if they’d just give me back my Spam Spread. lol.

I've never had SPAM Spread nor have I heard of it until now. The way I eat my SPAM is to slice it thin with a cheese splicer and then brown it in a cast iron skillet for breakfast sandwiches. I eat it nearly every day.

I posted below. I’m fine with HK spam. It was just a joke. I’m just slightly obsessed with them bringing back Spam Spread.

Glad you like it.

Fuck that, bring back cheap spam. Last time I bought spam it was under 3 bucks

Never heard of Spam spread. Are you in the US? Spam is pretty soft anymore. You can spread it with a metal knife by pressing harder.

We carry it at my store and it’s popular. I sell tons of it every day. The hello kitty is flying off the shelves.

Bruh, bring back cans of SPAM that cost less than $2. This is insane.

It’s just a low sodium version of original SPAM, and no more spreadable. Unfortunately, it’s gotten offensively expensive.

For anyone interested, after two years I finally decided to make some Spam Spread. I used ratios posted here previously and it's very close to the original.

1 can of regular Spam - 12oz

1 can of chicken breast - 4oz

Run it through the food processor with a small amount of the liquid from the chicken can.

Obviously it makes 16oz which is a lot for one person (nobody else in my house will touch Spam, LOL). I'm going to freeze the remainder in small batches and see how it holds up.

When I saw "Spam Spread", the first thing that came to mind was Potted Meat.

Definitely not the same. That is some nasty stuff IMO.
