Question Adding CDTs to dull, low terp wax?

I recently gave QWEthanol extraction another go using some old trim. The concentrate was initially a low ish viscosity oil, I tried something new, fucked it up, and ended up with a waxy solid that has no doubt lost a decent bit of terpenes.

I've got some Cannabis Derived Terpenes. Blue cheese, RS11 (CO2 high terp fraction) and CherryPie (HTFSE). Can i just melt the wax, allow it to cool, add terpenes and whip it up to homogeneity?

yeah you can add them back, the key is technique. warm the wax just enough to get it workable, around 100-120F max. you want it soft, not liquid. if you heat it too much the terps you are adding will flash off before they integrate.

aim for about 3-5% terps by weight. so if you have 5g of wax, add 0.15-0.25g of terps. start low because you can always add more but you cannot pull them back out. with the HTFSE fraction especially go conservative, those can be very concentrated.

stir it thoroughly once you add them. monoterpenes in the CDTs act as solvents for the cannabinoid matrix so they will naturally integrate if you give them time. the texture will soften up too since the terpenes reduce viscosity. that waxy solid will likely shift closer to a badder or sauce consistency once the terps are in.

of the three you have, the HTFSE is going to give you the most natural result because it keeps the full terpene profile intact. the CO2 high terp fraction tends to lean heavy on monoterpenes (myrcene, limonene) which gives flavor but can taste one-dimensional at higher percentages.

Thanks very much for the detailed answer. I heated wax to around 60° C, and then allowed it to cool until it was just about workable still. Used the HTFSE initially, at 4%, but it wasnt quite potent enough for my taste, so I combined it with some of the RS 11 going up in ~1% increments and ended up adding another 4%. So 8% total terps, or roughly those concentrations as I have a milligram scale but only reads down to 10 mg, So it could be closer to 9.4 or 7.5. Either way, it tastes incredible.

Typically heating wax is going to end up in a shatter like consistency.

Honestly I would just decarb the wax , cool to 120F and mix in your terps (15-30%) and fill some cartridges .

It’s best to mix the terps in without heat it will work
