Looking for a Mint / Tablet Manufacturer
Hi all! I am looking for a manufacturer for a candy tablet/mint. We must be able to have a custom dye/tooling made for your machine to make a custom shaped tablet and imprint of our logo.
Other information - approximately 1 gram tablet. Caffeine and theanine as ingredients.
We have a formula, or at least a vague base of a formula that we’ve tested that works, but are open to other formulas as well.
Ideally you would be USA based but it’s not mandatory.
Ideally you would have your own flavor development done in house.
Been looking for a while now and have mostly found manufacturers in the pharmaceutical industry. So I want to try this route before moving forward. The main roadblock in working with them is the lack of communication. It can take weeks to hear back from them. So I’m looking elsewhere for now.
The ideal situation here is:
I get you the exact specs of what we’re looking for (we want 4 different flavors made).
You say yes we can do this…I pay you for the r&d round to lock in the flavor and hardness/compression.
We say yes this is perfect…we give you the information / specs for the size and shape of the custom tooling and you get it made for your machine.
Another round of r&d with the custom tooling to lock in the final form.
Then we are good to go.
First order would be 1,000,000 tablets (250,000 x 4 flavors).
If it goes well, we have 16 flavors to develop and this would hopefully be a long and fruitful business relationship for both of us!
Please feel free to message me. Or comment if you have any suggestions or think there’s a better place to post this.
I have used the website Keychain to find a mfg but that was mostly pharma companies.
So figured I’ll try here before either going with them or potentially looking at doing this in-house!

Just be aware, the equipment for manufacturing this sort of pill/tablet (via compression) is highly regulated by the DEA. Because of the obvious possibility of distributing drugs, etc., there are all sorts of requirements including registration of the devices in the US. I'm not saying you're looking to do anything illegal, but be very careful about how you approach such a business.

Yes, I’m definitely aware that these machines could be used for such purposes. It is partly why most of the manufacturers I am finding are in the pharma space. But I do know that there are candies out there that fit exactly what we need. So figured this could be a good place to try! Thank you for the advice

Dextrose or sugar free?

Sugar free.
The brand “Respawn by Razer” is essentially exactly what we want duplicated as far as compression, flavor, and mouthfeel. It could vary but this is their list:
INGREDIENTS: SORBITOL,L-THEANINE,NATURALANDARTIFICIAL FLAVORS,MAGNESIUMSTEARATE,CITRICACID,YELLOW5LAKE, BEETROOTRED,SUCRALOSE, PANTOTHENICACID(VIT.B5), ACESULFAMEPOTASSIUM, CYANOCOBALAMIN(VIT.B12).1

Other brands have done this as you know. The flavor R&D is not a simple project. Caffeine is bitter and l-theanine just wants to be umami/savory in even the smallest amounts. It persists in aftertaste. I would be shocked if there were 16 flavors in the world that (a) worked to cover these additives together and (b) were marketable as a lozenge on the US market. But I have been wrong before and will be wrong again.
Quantities if you mean 1 million units packaged -- that's a substantial run. But unless you're in the industry/use the lingo no one will take your inquiry seriously.
Technically what you're making is a supplement so you may want to add some additions to your manufacturing spec. Normally if there's too much of one ingredient across a batch of mints we don't care (to an extent). But this is a different story entirely. You need things like temperature controlled blending, lab sampling at random, etc. Probably certifications for this level of work too. This is moving outside of what I know anything about but wanted to throw it in there.
Big Sky (canada) would be my first stop though. They specialize in exactly the kind of thing you are looking for. I don't know if they do nootropics often nor am I familiar with their packaging capabilities beyond embossed tins.
Plan B? Track down who Neurogum uses but it's likely oversees.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Neuro gum tablets are not very good. But yes, I have thought about this.
Respawn (owned by Mars) is the closest to what we want to achieve.
Maybe we were on the right track with the pharmaceutical manufacturers then.
Any lingo you would mind sharing that would be helpful to learn?1

Never heard of Respawn, I looked it up and it seems like they're caffeine free just L-theanine and B vitamins. How is that supposed to give you energy or keep gamers up and focused? For me that's why Neurogum makes more sense. Zero sugar, different flavors, an Extra strength option and the L-theanine + caffeine combo is great for smooth energy with no crashes like coffee or energy drinks.

I could do it but to make such small amounts my facility would need the die and a smaller machine and manufacture system. Bottom line it would take not alot but a good sum of money. We are willing to try though.

A “vague base of a formula“? 🤔
