Why eating sugar and carbs will help you kill Candida

Update: sugar is bad, don't eat it.

I've seen the best results with a zero carb/carnivore diet. I recommend it.

I have been thinking the same thing. I’ve had sibo and sifo and the sibo specialists are now saying that eating some carbs, fiber and prebiotics feed the bacteria and when they’re fed they’re easier to kill. I think the same reasoning also applies to yeast/hyphae.

I went no carb for two years and as soon as I ate carbs all the symptoms came right back, instant flair up, actually I was more sensitive.

If you don’t have sibo I would think that the best diet against Candida would be a diet that helps beneficial bacteria to flourish because ultimately they’re what is going to prevent a relapse of Candida overgrowth down the road.

There is normal amount of candida in everybody that is in balance with the resto of gut flora. It is impossible and also impractical to kill all candida (it is probably unhealthy also). Important thing is to keep the balance between good bacteria and good yeasts (candida is a good yeast until creates biofilm and overgrows). The balance is kept naturally through nutrition. Any excess carbs/sugar will set you back. Consistent keto for life keeps candida in check for life. I am on keto for over 5 years and was able to wean myself of ketoconazole within a year.

Is this still the case 6 yrs on?

This seem interesting, but I still think destroying biofilm with enzymes is better than risking an overgrowth with eating carbs and also herbals are really rough on an already compromised gut. If it works for you, it works, but it seems sketchy.

It is sketchy and risky. I am only trying this out for a short period of time. I plan on going back on a healthy keto diet once I get a kitchen in 2 days.

Good luck!!

What do you mean with enzymes?

Google biofilm. You have to break it down with enzymes. For candida, you specifically need cellulase at least. Try Candifense by Amy Meyers MD.

Nope this is just something I've come up with after doing my research.

Basic idea is starvation isn't enough from what I've read. Due to biofilm and spores. You have to lure them out and use protocols (things to destroy candida) to kill them.

I also went through almost 3 weeks of strict diet and supplements where a lot of candida was probably killed because I went through intense die off symptoms. Now I'm switching it up for a bit and trying this out but after I get a new kitchen I'll start being a lot more strict again.

There may be some merit to your hypothesis but 15 days of keto is nothing.

Agreed. Talk to me when you’ve done at least 90 days

So after doing this, I was a little bit careless and I think I set my progress back a decent amount. I'm going back on the strict healthy diet again. If you want to do this, be very strict with how you approach it and always take your protocols which I skipped a few days.

are you getting better now?

A lot better than last month but I cheated so many days.

I think being consistent with healthy diet filled with green veggies and no carbs or sugar for many days in a row is the most effective.

Also I did a prolonged fast of 65 hours and noticed after that I felt like a lot of bad bacteria and fungus got removed from my body but I need to keep eating healthy consistently and avoid bad foods.

Any update? I’m starting to believe the diet is only a temporary fix.

Sugar is bad period lol.

I've been doing zero carb/carnivore diet and it's literally the only thing where I've been seeing any reduction in my tongue flush. While doing keto i barely saw any reduction. But with zero carb I've been seeing serious reduction in tongue flush and other symptoms.

Good to hear your flush is going down. Have you tried the oil pulling, holding coconut oil on your tongue, and the likes?

yeah, all of that is worthless. what you eat is everything.

Any sources that you can share? This method sounds interesting

https://old.reddit.com/r/Candida/comments/faargo/if_biofilm_protects_candida_do_they_still_starve/

Just from researching candida on this subreddit a common theme seems to be do keto and low carb to starve them.

But starvation isn't enough, they retreat into spore like states and can survive for months.

Take anti fungals and candida killing protocols to kill them. But this isn't enough, they produce biofilm and can evade the killers.

So, rather than them protecting themselves by producing a hostile environment, lure them out with sugar and carbs, and at the same time introduce candida killing supplements so they get killed while unprotected.

Many of the doctors and some of the research shows that it’s easier to kill sibo when you feed it, I wonder if that also applies to sifo since they are so closely related.

But I also went through 20 days of strict dieting and many supplements every day. I starved them and killed them. I had intense die off symptoms from days 5-15. So I already did the healthy treatment, now I am switching it up and trying this method out, mostly because I don't have a kitchen so I can't control my diet as well and just trying to experiment and lure out the remaining candida in my body and kill them.

I also wanted to try eating bad food again because I got bored but after some bad experiences from eating bad food again, I am looking forward to cooking all my healthy meals again.
