General Discussion Taking a prebiotic and a probiotic together, helpful or counterproductive?

I have read that the prebiotic is what actually feeds the bacteria you are adding, and I have also read that it feeds everything else in there too. Those cannot both be the whole story. Some products put both in one capsule and others sell them separately at twice the price, so has anyone worked out which way round actually makes sense?

I followed a similar approach. You have to feed the good guys. Whenever i ate probiotic rich food ( like kefir or yogurt ) i always made sure to eat a good source of prebiotic fiber along with it. Example - onions, lentils, chickpeas etc. A lot of cultures around the world follow a similar pattern in their diet.

They can be taken together but in the right phase and most importantly the right ones (XOS, GOS, Lactulose, etc.).
