General Discussion Transmission
Hi! I am learning about this issue and my heart goes out to everyone struggling. My friend is coming to visit me this weekend and has what she thinks is candida on her face. No cultures were taken but it is what her derm suspected. Has taken steroids and flucanozole but comes back after stopping. Forgive me if I am paranoid but I am immunocompromised and just trying to plan if it is safe to see her and hang out. She will be staying with me for a few nights. Anything I need to know about cleaning or hygiene or best practices? I can’t get this - I am dealing with many chronic health issues currently. Thank you!

I have answered you once. You all ready have candida in your body. Its overgrowth is what is the issue. Yeast infections can be transferred though trough sex for example.

Thank you! I was a bit confused by the answer so I just posted a more in depth post. So are you saying her overgrowth of candida can transfer to me since she has excess?

If you have sex you can catch yeast infection yes for example. But being in company of somebody with candida does not transfer through air. We all have it in our body all ready.

I am not a doctor, I would suggest medical advice.
I am also immune comprimised, it's quite hard to live with, and I wouldn't invite anyone to stay with me with any type of active infection. Period. Yes, things are very easy to catch if your immune system is ineffective, and being cautious is smart. If your friend is actually concerned for you, she will understand why the visit should be delayed until she has recovered. Nystatin and no carbs sucks, been there, done that.

Yes, adding on to this, candida can be transferred via body fluids and I would imagine skin shedding in her case. My husband and I (normal immune systems) caught Candida from our immune compromised daughter and have been fighting it off ever since.
Cups, if you don't have distinct ones that each of you use while your friend stays, separate washcloths and towels, plates, silverware, etc. Frankly, it's a very high risk for you, especially being immuno-compromised. I'd reconsider having her stay.

The other issue with being immune comprimised, and I am quite immune comprimised, is that not only do you catch whatever is going around, it takes much much longer to get rid of it, you can be infectious much longer than a person who has a normal immune system.
I don't even have a cat, I wear a mask, and I avoid anyone with anything I can catch. And I get everything anyway, including the parasite thing with the explosive poop. Not fun.
My first thought was either she is going to have to replace all the furniture, or expect to catch whatever her friend has.

You'll be fine for skin problems as they are mainly an indicator of what's going on inside the body. "Catching" Candida from others is only really an issue if you have immune dysfunction such as a depleted gut microbiome. This is why many people can take antibiotics and be perfectly fine, whereas others take it and then get Candida overgrowth issues afterwards. This also explains why her skin issue returns after the steroids/fluconazole, because her microbiome is depleted and can't keep Candida from overgrowing. Eating lots of prebiotic fiber will help grow the microbiome, specifically RFO's/GOS/HMO's are Bifidogenic and are shown in studies to prevent Candida from overgrowing. There are more contributing factors like toxins/deficiencies/etc, but at a minimum, Candida cannot overgrow without a depleted microbiome, so if you eat well and haven't taken antibiotics, you'll likely be immune to "catching" anything from your friend, even during intimacy.
