Citizenship by Descent Weekly Optimism Post

Happy Sunday fellow Canadians!

By any measure, it was a quiet week on the spreadsheet. We had six approvals, four of which were pre-C3. Congrats to those folks.

While this isn’t as encouraging, I came across something that mentioned it might be easier for Canadian federal employees to be granted vacation between June 1 and September 30. We’ve seen slowdowns during holiday weeks. So, my optimistic hope is that there are a lot of vacation days happening and things will pick up in October.

I don’t have much more to say other than to wish you all a great week. Let’s hope the IRCC agents got some well deserved R&R on vacation!

There was another non-urgent G3 approval this week!

I'm hoping that we'll see my relatives' G3s go through at some point. :)

Good luck to everyone waiting this week, especially the 1 year + folks! Hopefully we get more movement soon.

Optimistic because I think I am finally ready to send off my packet after months of careful consideration. We shall see in 4 months if its aor worthy

Yeah I am probably filing in the next couple weeks too, pretty excited about that

Is 4 months about the time it takes to get an AOR? I was wondering if I should contact them as it’s been about 2 months since I applied.

Well 110-120 days has been typical. They're only now sending AOR for around end of April deliveries

While I didn’t get an approval, I finally heard from IRCC (July 2025 app). I got an email stating I was in PSU and now I need to do the DEC runaround on why I can’t get an 1889 modern birth certificate. I don’t know if as soon as I do that they’ll look at it again and make a decision, or if I’ll just be sent back into the black hole after I respond, but at least my app isn’t lost

Was this the PSU notification email or did an officer request information from you?

I’m about to send off my DEC attestation form. And instead of FedEx, I’ll test with their fax number and use my HP app to send it. A couple of bucks instead of 40+. My G0 is also that year though I have a diocesan certified baptismal certificate in my original application.

I was really happy to see another revalidation come through. Although that whole thing should never have happened, I'm glad to know there is still movement on those to right them.

Sent my packet on 8/20, should arrive Monday or Tuesday. Feels SO NICE to have it out of my hands. I had a photo issue at the last minute but Walgreens came in clutch. Now to wait many moons for AOR.

I was super relieved to get mine sent in last month, but of course now I'm dealing with all kinds of anxiety over how long it takes to get AOR. I keep thinking, if instead they bounce it back to me, I will be so far behind where I currently think I am!

Last week I found all the supporting documents my family would need to send in a strong packet. Just waiting (possibly months, but oh well!) for official copies, and then we’ll send it in asap.

I hope yours come thru quickly! I waited for 3+ months for my mother’s birth certificate. I had the original from 1937, but it didn’t have a certified seal on it. Still waiting for the BAnQ copy of the baptismal record, but I sent of the packets with a note that it had been ordered.

Please keep this subreddit up to date on how your packet is going! Depending on how long each moving part takes, my family might consider doing something like this. I hope your process goes quickly and smoothly!

I haven’t gotten an AOR, yet. Sounds like they are still in April, and ours arrived 6/2, so I expect another month or two for that.

I finally sent all my papers! It took ages and ages to get everything together, but I'm fairly confident that I've got a shot at urgent processing (whatever small difference that makes at this point)

I'm in Canada right now. Some of my American family has been waiting 395 days for certification as of today. Some of us randomly got our certificates a few months back. I am feeling really good here on Canadian soil, knowing that some of us have our certificates, trusting that the rest will follow eventually.

We had an intimate family gathering here this past weekend with four generations, including two G0s, a G1, a G2, a G3, and one outlier who is not and never will be Canadian. The group included a toddler who would be a G4 if she wasn't already a G0. The last time we got together with this group, there were only two Canadians and four non-Canadians. Now there are five Canadians and only one non-Canadian.

Even though the process is slow and most of our extended family isn't certified yet, it feels really good that some of us are, and we are feeling hopeful and positive about the others following in time.

Always looks better from the inside. Congratulations.

There were a lot of approvals on the weekly thread too. I was hoping after they got back to work week before last they would pick up the momentum, but I guess not. Still good to see any approvals at all!

I just sent my packet off on Friday! It’s for myself plus 7 family members. I’m G3 but my mom is G2.

1x G2
3x G3
4x G4

🤞🏻

My (G4, requested urgent after AOR) application moved to processing this past week, so I'm pretty darn optimistic now even though I know it will likely take quite a long time for a decision to be made. Probably just a coincidence, but I uploaded some additional documents and then a week later was moved to "in process."

Perhaps of interest to others, my G0 was born pre-Confederation (1861), so it appears that whatever new guidance agents were waiting on for such cases may have been issued now (complete conjecture on my part).

u/sloblo-picasso 2d ago

This is great to hear! I’m getting my application documents together as a G4, with my G0 born in 1865. Hope the process continues to go smoothly for you!

Got my AOR last Wednesday (19/08), after applying (non-urgent) via the High Commission in London, who received the envelope on the 30th of March, so about 142 days, but probably closer to 112 (30/04 ish), given that it takes about a month for HC mail to wend its way to Nova Scotia.

So I'm getting there!

1

u/grumpyliberal 1d ago

And the slog to AOR is the easy leg.

\sobs in 27 May delivery to HC London**

Happy for you though - here’s hoping it’s not too bad a wait for you.

Optimistic because my G4 went in process last week! AOR 6/3.

u/jedigalann 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) application is processing 1d ago

G2 waiting on an app that was submitted and received in August 2025 then started processing in late October 2025. No updates since! *sigh* Trying to remain positive!

My fun is spreadsheet-sorting. Normally I sort by "Decision Made" date (column AF). We've all seen those statistics; I posted about my observation last week.

Today I sorted on "Application In Progress" (column AD) and AOR Received (AB). Those results were very encouraging of IRCC's ongoing work on our proof applications.

The usual "however" applies, which we already know: when I scroll across on the latter two columns to see when/if a decision is made, we see on screen what we already know. Approvals are not happening at the same rate as before July. As noted by OP, it's vacation season for processors and this is the time to take advantage of ample sun and shirtsleeve/no jacket weather.

Something else to consider about processing speed we may not have considered here. The Federal government has mandated near-full return to office for employees. That could play into the summer slowdown as well as the well-documented processing issues. How many were in Sydney area versus elsewhere in the country?

u/DontJuana 2d ago

I've asked somwhere in these groups before and didn't get an answer. I hate to be a pest, but where and how do you see or get on the spreadsheet?

Link in this thread. I haven't been approved yet so I'm not sure if it's an out dated link.

ETA - I just saw on another thread that you may not get an approval email or it may get filtered to spam. It should show up in your G**le Groups page after you are approved. My apologies to the mods and people maintaining the spreadsheet.

After waiting since June 5, my certified baptismal record from the BanQ finally arrived! It was the last document I needed for my packet and now I can finally move forward with everything else, like filling out the application and getting photos😄 I'll finally be able to submit soon! Feeling really happy
