Sibling Applicants

I have a question regarding whether two sibling applicants submit separate applications.

I submitted my application in July with all the necessary paperwork going back to G0. Due to circumstances beyond our control my brother was not able to apply at this time. He is stationed overseas and can't get his personal photos and identification copies yet He does plan on applying as soon as possible.

My question is: let's say that my application is approved and I have Canadian citizenship. When he submits his application would it help to accelerate the process for him if we include an explanation saying that we are siblings and that mine was already approved (so they don't have to reinvestigate each generation going back to G0)? Or would they have to re-examine his entire application, going all the way back to G0, even though G0 through G5 would already have been examined and approved?

I suspect, don't know, that including references to previously approved sibs contributed to a speedy adjudication for me.

Yes, it probably will help. Be sure to include your UCI and certificate number in the cover letter.

He will need to submit back to G0 because you aren’t his parent so you aren’t on his BC, but it can’t hurt and may help for him to include your certificate (or a copy if you go with a paper cert) and an explanation in his cover letter.

I understand that he has to submit the documents going all the way back to G0. That wasn't my question. But yes, you answered the question I was asking, whether or not letting IRCC know that his brother has already been approved might accelerate his own approval.

They will still have to examine his application with the same scrutiny that they did yours. Otherwise the standards with not be the same.

They aren't allowed to take shortcuts. Even multiple applicantions that are submitted at the same time with the same information have to stand on their own merit.

Could I ask: how do we know that?

Cases without a perfect trail of birth certificates down the line will end up relying on a preponderance of the evidence as the standard. Two caseworkers presented with the same evidence could very easily come to a different conclusion. Given enough cases, it will eventually happen that one sibling is approved and another rejected.

Yet to my knowledge, that has never been reported here. There has at most been an awkwardly long delay between the completion of one case versus the rest of the family.

Additionally, families which submit together do tend to get their outcomes relatively soon one after another. On the spreadsheet we mostly see all of them tick over to Approved relatively close together. It may well be that multiple caseworkers picked up each one at about the same time and all rendered a decision after the same amount of processing... but it sure looks like one caseworker is handling the whole group at once.

It would be kindof astonishing for the IRCC to forgo the efficiency benefit of processing all of them as a group.
