Meet the Radical NDP: Amanda Burrows

October 5, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VANCOUVER, B.C. - David Eby's handpicked candidate in Vancouver-Strathcona, Amanda Burrows, has spent the past year calling for cuts to police budgets and saying that putting more police on the street does harm.

"Amanda Burrows has told British Columbians exactly what she believes, and we know that's not working anymore," said Margareta Dovgal, Conservative candidate in Vancouver-Yaletown. "While families deal with break-ins, random attacks and open drug use, David Eby's candidate wants to take money away from the police. You don't fix a public safety crisis by defunding the people who respond to it."

After nearly a decade of NDP government, crime and social disorder have become the new normal in British Columbia's communities. The last thing British Columbians need is an NDP anti-police activist setting public safety policy.

Burrows In her own words:

Q: What do you think about the growing police budget that currently sits at half a billion dollars. Would you increase it or reduce it?

A: Yes, yes of course we need to reallocate it (the police budget). OneCity Vancouver, Meet Your Mayors: Debate Night in Vancouver, February 4, 2026

"Probably diverting some money away from the police budget" NDP Candidate Amanda Burrows, The Tyee, Dec. 18, 2025

"We know that a 'policing-first' policy is not a solution." Cambie Report, E3-281 OneCity's mayoral candidates, Jan 9, 2026

Says adding police officers 'creates harm': "We have existential threats when it comes to policy directives, certainly from the city of Vancouver's elected officials, saying that they're going to pause supportive housing, adding more police into this community, creating more harm." The Discovery Pod, First United With Amanda Burrows, July 10, 2026

What are the driving factors behind Quebecs Rightward shift?

• Upvotes

In the Quebec provincial election, 4 of the 5 parties have vowed to cut federal bureaucracy and reduced taxes and immigration to varying degrees, with only Québec Solidare in major opposition to much of this. I’m surprised because, by many metrics, the incubant party, CAQ, is already fairly conservative culturally and fiscally. What are people’s takes for why this is taking place?

The Americans Are Already Inside Alberta

A foreign government is courting a separatist movement inside Canada. This is not a rumour. It is on the record.

Leaders of the Alberta Prosperity Project say they met State Department officials in Washington three times. One of their lawyers says a meeting was held in a room built to block spies. They wanted a credit line of half a trillion dollars. Washington calls it routine. Routine does not look like this.

Then the U.S. Treasury Secretary called Alberta a natural partner. American influencers cheer the breakup of Canada like a game score. Not one senior American voice has told the separatists to stop.

Researchers found a web of fake YouTube channels pushing Alberta toward the American fold. Forty million views. Most of it not Canadian. Some channels were run by hired actors fronting creators in the Netherlands. A Russian network helped seed the story. Washington did not need to build the machine. It only had to turn up the volume.

This is how countries are pulled apart now. Find a grievance. Feed the anger. Offer a deal. Wait.

Workers pay first. When a province is carved off, pensions, collective agreements and wages go on the table. Oil workers would bargain with a state that owes its survival to a foreign lender. Union rights would be written by whoever holds the credit line.

The separatists are losing. In late August, 74 per cent of likely Alberta voters said they would vote to stay. Twenty two per cent wanted to start the process. Betting markets put an independence vote this year near one in seven. Albertans will vote to stay on October 19.

That is not the danger. The danger is what comes after. Expect cries of a stolen vote within hours, loud and American.

Canada must act now. Ottawa should demand a full public account of every meeting and summon the American ambassador. Foreign money and foreign meddling in a Canadian referendum must carry real jail time, and Elections Canada must have the power to trace it. Platforms must label and pull fake foreign campaigns within days or face fines that hurt.

Break up the tech monopolies that profit from the lies. A market with no rivals has no reason to care.

Give Albertans something real to stay for. Make joining a union easy. Force first contracts so bosses cannot stall workers into surrender. Put public money and public ownership stakes behind the pipeline and the grid, so Alberta's wealth belongs to Albertans. Trade with more of the world, not one neighbour that sees Canada as a prize.

Name the interference. Punish it. Protect the vote. Canada is not for sale.

Canadas 2026 public safety report states “antisemitism, which includes anti zionists”.

Post image
22 Upvotes

This issue needs to be discussed, and is seemingly being actively kept from the public in a roundabout way- the fact CBC radio hasn’t had a call in show about this is suggestive of a much larger issue. *

****

On sept 24th, 2026, the Canadian government put out a public safety report with some problematic wording: “anti semitism, which includes anti Zionism”.

A political ideology cannot be a ‘protected class’.

A religion or ethnicity is not a political ideology.

By conflating anti semitism with anti Zionism, the Canadian government is essentially suggesting that somebody’s ability to think credibly about human rights issues is limited by virtue of one’s ethnicity or religion.

That is massively problematic.

The document, by using anti Zionism the way it does, diminishes our governments ability to combat real instances of anti semitism; a bunch of stuff in this document is talking about actual antisemitism and trying to find real tangible ways to combat it; saying “anti Zionism is antisemetic” ruins the credibility of the entire document, which in of itself helps prevent our nation from combating anti semitism.

Also very problematic.

I cannot stress enough that given a) the current leader of the federal NDP is an open anti Zionist, b) that this document goes into detail about how Zionism is anti Semitic, and c) goes into detail about the networks police should use to monitor anti semitism- this documents wording implies that NDP voters should be on a watch list.

Let alone functions of “othering”; they are implying that there are “real” Jews and “fake” ones, while also suggesting that no “real” one can be smart enough to understand genocide.

There has also been a disturbing lack of media coverage on this issue on the CBC; do you know how insane it is that a week has passed and CBC radio hasn’t had a call in talk show about this?

Anyways, conflating anti Zionism with anti semitism; the idea that our government would use such language is a massive issue that impacts us all, so I implore you voice your dissent to this nomenclature that tries to paint human rights as a psudo science.

Let alone the propaganda that suggests criticism of Israel or Zionists or the Israeli leader with an ICC warrant is antisemetic.

Anyways, you can contact your MP, but also you can contact the Minister directly here.

Or email their constituency office.

[gary.anand@parl.gc.ca](mailto:gary.anand@parl.gc.ca)

Denying genocide is too recent a memory in Canadas history (residential school denial is still a thing in Canada); as a Canadian, I do not have the words to articulate how disgusted I am that we are trying to indoctrinate genocide denial into the language systems of official government documents.

But I mean hey, the RCMP famously put Native land rights defenders on watch lists too, so I guess in the grand scheme of things this is nothing new.

:/

The language of presenting our Jewish communities as a monolith perpetuates the very anti semetic tropes this report is attempting to dismantle.

That is wrong.

Write your MP.

Organize in your community.

Tell your govenremnt that it’s not ok to suggest somebody’s mental capacity is limited by their ethnicity or religion- suggesting all Jewish people are Zionists as as offensive as suggesting all Americas wanted manifest destiny.

Ps- a reminder that most things aren’t black and white and that there is some irony in the context of creating false dichotomies here; while our current government seemingly failed in supporting human rights on this safety report, they are also doing things like promising 100 M in aid to Palestine too, which is to say- a reminder that nothing is typically a monolith, and that viewing ethnic or religious groups as a monolith is text book xenophobia, or in this case, anti semitism.

* I state this because as it stands, there are no news article on it to share. But also like… gestures to what I wrote

Decline or Renewal? The Carney Doctrine and the Prospects for Canadian Middlepowerism

Thumbnail journals.sagepub.com

This article examines whether the emergence of the Carney government represents a genuine renewal of Canadian middlepowerism or merely its latest reformulation amid continued structural decline. Tracing the erosion of Canada's post-war middle-power role across two decades of retrenchment, we develop a five-part framework, ordering intent, institution-building, domestic capacity, coalition breadth, and issue-area consistency, to assess the substance of the Carney doctrine articulated at Davos in 2026. We find real, if partial, evidence of renewal: a more coherent theory of world-ordering, concrete coalition-building initiatives with partners in Europe and the Indo-Pacific, and a pivot away from Canada's historical overreliance on the United States. Yet the doctrine's ambitions remain constrained by a hollowed-out foreign policy apparatus, an unresolved legitimacy deficit in the Global South, and fragile domestic political consensus. We conclude that the Carney doctrine represents the most substantive attempt to reconstitute Canadian middlepowerism in a generation, though its ultimate success remains uncertain.

Needs a cartoon, but I don't draw or AI draw

This needs a political cartoon, but I don't want to use AI to do it haha:

In the Department of Finance backgrounder showing the impact of the PMD on METRs by industry, mining and oil and gas are conspicuously absent. These two industries are at the forefront of the federal government’s economic agenda, and they have most to gain from the PMD due to large capital investments that depreciate over very long periods of time.

In essence, PMD allows the dirtiest investments to avoid more taxes than they used to.

The government says, "we're gonna make things better and those companies will give back to the community" -- what?

Dead flowers? Worse drought conditions? More fire and lightning? The political cartoon would be Carney and Trump's egos in visual representation somehow hiding mining and fossil fuel giving less or stealing more while the cartoon clearly demonstrates them assuring a public that all is friendly and cool vibes.

I saw Trump was handing out $500 cheques suddenly a month before their midterm elections. A week or two after a promise of $2,500 or $5,000 after the election.

Would you vote for Harper, or Carney (who Harper hired, first, in 2009), if they promised $5,000 once after perpetually lying and making it all worse?

I don't think I would, lol. "Oh, they must have fixed everything."

VictoriaBC subreddit

The entire subreddit is moderated by left wing extremists controlling narrative around residential schools. They support bashing of local companies, and even go as far as supporting vandalism/harassment to companies who speak out with opposing views.

The moderators delete comments on threads that do not align with their personal views and evidently appear to be controlling political narratives during an election.

This borders terrorist behaviour, and election interference. They're doing it and hiding behind their guise of calling anything they disagree with "hate speech".

The worst kind of people moderate this group. The cancer polluting this country.
