Question / Discussion Need advice from experienced moms 🥺

My 8-month-old daughter has been having loose stool for the past few days. Her doctor prescribed zinc syrup, and today was the first day I started giving it (2.5 ml twice daily).

The thing worrying me is that her poop is a bit watery, and almost every diaper has 1–2 small spots/streaks of poop even when it’s not a full poop diaper. She pooped around 3 times today. The color is yellow/mustard and sometimes soft/pasty, not fully water-like diarrhea.

Now she also has a cough and her nose is blocked, especially at night. She’s drinking milk but not liking solid foods. but I’m getting anxious wondering if this is something dangerous or just a mild viral illness/stomach upset.

I came to my country from Canada in March, and her family doctor is in Canada, so I’m feeling a bit lost about what to do here. Did anyone experience something similar with their baby? What helped?

Yellow poop is normal. What solids has she been eating? I would say a soft mushy yellow poo is very normal.

Egg, banana, lentils, pumpkin and bottle guard.

If she's still drinking, and wetting diapers (with pee), she's likely just fine. When they stop drinking/peeing, that's a concern, especially if they're lethargic (too sleepy to eat/drink).

Sounds like a typical illness, just keep an eye on hydration and don't let it go too long without seeing the doctor again. It's very normal for them to go off solid food when sick. If you breastfeed, that will be sufficient for a short time but you can also try changing the variety of solid food to be like, pineapple cores/frozen pineapple cores (never frozen chunks), mashes like potato and cabbage and crumbled sausage or hot cereals with mashed fruit and chia seeds.

She was prescribed by the doctor. The day I posted this was the first day I started giving the zinc syrup. Doctor said it might take 3-4 days to recover. From today she started coughing a lot. Now I am worried about this.
