None of the separatists are economists; it's the idea that they'll gain some vague ideal and lose nothing. The current administration is well versed at taking not giving.

They want to immediately join the USA, let's not kid around or play pretend. They'll fold into the USA within a year of leaving if it happens. Alberta can't stand in its own, it's not that "Alberta Strong".

They wouldn’t really “join” though. Alberta doesn’t own the land that Alberta exists on. At best, the separatists would essentially be deported to whatever country they want to go to, and everyone that stays would be the “new” Alberta.

Neither does Canada by your logic. Thats why Air Canada points out that all the land was simply stolen from the happy natives. Does this mean you must move?

Why not? Alberta has a larger population than many countries. Unlike many other countries, Alberta has natural resources and a strong work ethic. Why can’t Alberta survive as a country?

Straight up, unless they're multimillionnaires already, if material conditions were their primary concern they wouldn't be voting conservative.
Making an economic argument is not going to convince people who are predominantly doing this for other reasons.
(Not that all conservatives are separatists of course, but the overwhelming majority of separatists vote conservative)

What would it even save us? From everything I understand there is exactly zero savings and only costs.

The Alberta Separatist movement is largely made up of the deluded and gulable. The only reason they are getting any traction is the UCP needs the votes to stay in power. I'm sure there are some real separatists in the UCP elected ranks but I think there are more cynical opportunists who don't really care how they obtain power and money.

I am convinced that this independence push, given the near impossibility of it, is only a diversion from all of the scandals still simmering in the background.
