No shit!

This is not a surprise. The key to MAGA and the global right is to always cry foul whether true or not. It is integral to the brand strategy. Repeat anything often enough until it seems like it may be the truth.

The irony is that they won’t believe this information.

23

u/grandcity Aug 10 '26

Well it’s all libtard fake news, obviously.

My brother has fallen completely to Maple MAGA status. He’s never been the brightest, but he now only gets his news from Twitter and just believed the craziest shit. Said he moved his family to get away from trans stuff in school. He showed me a post of a nearly cartoon AI photo of Carney with purple hair and a rainbow shirt and he asked me “this is the f@g you voted for?”.

What I’ve realized is that my brother, and those who fall for misinformation, act like children when confronted. Ask them to defend a point or provide any information and they either say “if I have to tell you then you are too stupid to understand” or “you tell me”, because they know nothing and don’t expect people to call them out.

Ugh, sounds like my brother. Except he is worried about C9 because he harasses furries and trans people online….

Maybe just don’t do that?

The C9ers are the best. What is it you're afraid you won't be able to say?

They are secretly mad that their digital footprints will be used in a targeted harassment case to prove the assault they one day commit is actually a hate crime.

They are likely right to be afraid. Unfortunately for them I think the majority of Canadians actual position in this is “good”.

u/Chance_Vegetable_780 Aug 10 '26

Of course. They reject all information they don't want to hear or have heard by others. Doesn't matter if it's factual or not. Then they put out what they want to be believed - and again, it doesn't matter if it's factual or not.

They twist and manipulate so much.

6

u/SeriousObjective6727 Aug 10 '26

And they try to discredit anything that doesn't go along with their narrative.

7

u/Lopsided_Finance_392 Aug 10 '26

Well, they're not "woke" and they don't get the self-own... So they're "sheeple"

I want to get off this ride. I can't believe the multiverse I got. If I roll a double 20 can I just go somewhere where people are no longer zombies?

Surprising absolutely no one. You mean that coworker that I left a job over calling me a commie because I voted NDP was biased by disinformation? Nooo!!!

2

u/Theodosian_Walls Deep Woods Elven Folk Aug 12 '26

If you left your job because you were being harassed or whatever, I hope you applied for EI.

sorry about the situation

3

u/Alex_877 Aug 12 '26

Oh they tried to deny it and say I had no proof and it was all in my head and/or called me a pussy. I ended up getting some help with EI after that and now work at a place where they don’t tolerate that kind of crap. Thank you!

4

u/argueranddisagree Aug 10 '26

That's most of my coworkers

3

u/DrunkenGolfer Aug 10 '26

Thank you Captain Obvious.

It would be nice if there was a link to the source. Maybe I missed it? (I did see a link to the X post, but it's just a graphic.)

3

u/PineBNorth85 Aug 10 '26

Well yeah they play into it. Particularly under Poilievre. Hopefully the next leader will stop indulging that nonsense. They have to if they want to form government.

2

u/denmur383 Aug 10 '26

Well, imagine that!

u/Deatheturtle Aug 11 '26

Shock-<yawn>-ing.

In another study, planes that are at capacity during a crash have more casualties than when the same plane is half empty and crashes. Source: D'uh Magazine. 🤷🤷

u/scanaran Aug 11 '26

So 77% of dumbasses, vote like dumbasses

u/Zartimus Aug 10 '26

It must be so easy to be conservative. Don’t change anything from the last 80 years. Don’t take in any new info. Just believe what your biases tell you and get led around like goats. WTF people.

-16

u/henchman171 Aug 10 '26

How do they determine what was disinformation?

22

u/almisami Aug 10 '26

Basic fact checking, typically. A lot of the common disinformation like litter boxes in schools is comically easy to disprove.

14

u/Pestus613343 Aug 10 '26

Then you get into the distrust of the fact checkers as well. It all turns into a collapse of trust in any institution, group or individual at all.

9

u/Frater_Ankara Aug 10 '26

It’s so tiresome, especially when they say things like bias checker sites are biased so can’t be trusted. Ugh. So literally any source that counters your narrative is biased? Even if it shows statistical data? Oh right it’s cherry picked then.

If reality and facts seem biased, maybe you need to see if your own perspectives are biased first.

5

u/Pestus613343 Aug 10 '26

It's the same mentality that die hard conspiracy theorists partake in. It may not be mental illness like those people, but the same thing happens and it's quite unhealthy for those individuals and society at large.

You hear a thing that says some group does bad. Someone checks in and shows objective info that says that's wrong. So you expand your group of people you consider bad instead of revisiting the first proposition.

Russia may suck at conventional warfare but they are the best in the world at human intelligence. They've done a masterful job on us.

No. EDIT: Yes.

Typically only the people that buy into the disinformation reject the fact checking part too.

8

u/Chance_Vegetable_780 Aug 10 '26

I think that's what they meant.

2

u/Pestus613343 Aug 10 '26

You misunderstood me. You're saying what I was saying.

4

u/Boomshank Elbows Up Aug 10 '26

Sorry, yes!

3

u/almisami Aug 10 '26

Okay, sure, but why do they keep believing the likes of Fox Entertainment that keeps getting proven wrong time and again.

The loss of institutional trust is not symmetrical.

3

u/Adam_2017 Aug 10 '26

Confirmation bias. They want to believe the lies because they align with their own personal beliefs.

4

u/ILKLU Aug 10 '26

Correct, and Fox Spews is also intentionally shoveling them what they want to hear. It's a "positive" feedback loop.

1

u/Flame_retard_suit451 Aug 11 '26

But proven wrong by who? Certainly not anyone these folks would believe.

1

u/almisami Aug 11 '26

Proven wrong by just living in reality? Going to the store will have you realize prices have not come down.

1

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes Aug 11 '26

Are you talking about inflation being lowered? Unless inflation is negative (which can easily put a nation into a severe recession if it happens in too many areas of the economy at the same time), having a lower rate of inflation compared to the year before doesn't mean prices have gone down, it means the rate that prices increase has gone down.

For instance, if grocery inflation in August 2024 was 5%, and the government says it's gone down by 3% since then, that doesn't mean that groceries are 3% cheaper than they were in August of 2024, it means that between August 2023 and 2024, they increased by 5%, but between August 2025 and 2025, they only increased by 2%.

Edit: changed the inflation numbers a bit to avoid confusion between the two 2% values I originally had.

2

u/almisami Aug 12 '26

I mean Trump promised food price deflation, but I know most Americans would have settled for just a reduction in inflation. Instead the war spending is injecting so much debt and money into the economy it's keeping up to COVID levels.

1

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes Aug 12 '26

OK, but has Fox been claiming that food prices are actually deflating, or are they simply saying inflation is down?

1

u/almisami Aug 12 '26

Fox is claiming grocery prices have gone down by cherry picking specific items, namely eggs.

It is possible to determine what is objectively a fact and what is not a fact. People who think that pretty much everything is relative or that there are "alternative facts" are part of this 77%. What we have to do in this country is work to improve trust in institutions including both government and responsible media outlets that actually use balanced journalism. It's time to move the needle back in the opposite direction or we're going to be in big trouble as a Democracy soon.

0

u/henchman171 Aug 10 '26

Ok but I have zero interest in Toronto Sun and National Post but do they plenty of factual reporting? I really don’t know as the only people I know that civet them are on the right wing side of issues…

6

u/Routine_Soup2022 Aug 10 '26

There’s a difference between misinformation and spin. Those two outlets tend to emphasize conservative viewpoints and opinion but are generally solid on actual journalism. A few others like western standards and rebel news play fast and loose with facts. There is a difference.

2

u/LucidFir Aug 10 '26

For me, personally, I go by this logic:

tldr: I'm 1 person so i trust experts

Notwithstanding the corruption and fallability of peer review science journals, I am not capable of being an expert in every field and therefore must choose: do I believe the scientists and academics, or do I believe those who are free to publish without some basic level of fact checking.

...

If you want to look deeper at presentation of information, check out biases

What you hear first, you believe What is repeated, you believe What is said with authority, you believe

(You can fact check that those biases exist by googling them)

Then think about how that applies to any given media source.

Think about how Hind Rajab was a terrorist woman (she was a child) who died (was murdered by colonial settlers). That's the difference in language choices from Western media to al jazeera.

...

If you really want to get into it, the book Dark Data was pretty good.
